That makes it a good time for our 2024 Prospect Roulette.
Here’s how it works: I’ll pop up a random number generator that includes the 2024 rankings. I’ll generate 10 numbers and the 10 that come up will be the ranking of the player. I’ll then spotlight those players in the article to help give them some more attention.
There’s 130 players ranked in our Class of 2024. Let’s see who has the lucky numbers this month:
106. Laina Kariniemi Laina Kariniemi 5'6" | S Calumet | 2024 State MI , S Calumet
Kariniemi is coming off an All-State performance for the Copper Kings in Division 3 during the 2023 prep season. Kariniemi is a consistent and smooth setter that knows her hitters well and how to get them the ball with the ability to succeed. Her serve also has proven to be a momentum swinger.
124. Joy Pryor Joy Pryor 5'5" | DS/L Mount Pleasant | 2024 State MI , DS/L Mt. Pleasant/Michigan Elite
Pryor is a defender that plays with a lot of intensity and she has shown improvement each year. She quickly learns from her mistakes and adapts well to opposing hitters. She’s got the hustle and energy you look for in a back row specialist.
55. Grace Spoelma Grace Spoelma 5'8" | S Grand Rapids Christian | 2024 State MI , S Grand Rapids Christian/MVA
The Calvin commit had a great year for GRC, as she helped lead the Eagles to the Division 2 semifinals during the prep season. A first-team All-State pick in D2, Spoelma stepped up as combo hitter/setter this fall, but that just adds to her ability as a primary setter. She’s got a great awareness of what her hitters need and also can be an aggressive setter that calls her own number.
43. Marianna Rivera Marianna Rivera 6'5" | MB Williamston | 2024 State MI , MH Williamston/L2
Rivera had dominant stretches for Williamston this past prep season, using her 6’5” frame and athleticism to her advantage. Rivera has intangibles that you can’t teach and has grown in confidence at the net. The North Dakota commit could be a real game changer at the next level.
66. Kaitlyn Schram Kaitlyn Schram 5'9" | S Hartland | 2024 State MI , S Hartland/L2
Schram had the Hartland program reaching new heights in 2023 and she’s building off that on her way to Otterbein for college play. Schram has a complete game as a setter. Outside of her primary setting ability, Schram can be a difference maker defensively and with her serving. She looks to make the most of each opportunity.
17. Catherine Flaharty Catherine Flaharty 6'2" | OH Saline | 2024 State MI , OH Saline/L2
Flaharty is a powerful outside that can go head-to-head with most any outsides in the state. The Xavier commit has the ability to finish from either pin and do it at a high rate. She’s got a lot of speed in her swing, but has worked hard to develop her offspeed game as well.
3. Isabelle Swiercz Isabelle Swiercz 6'2" | OH Hudsonville | 2024 State #110 Nation MI , OH Hudsonville/FaR Out
Swiercz wrapped up a stellar career at Hudsonville, certainly leaving as one of the program’s all-time greats. A complete six-rotation player, Swiercz is set to compete for Central Michigan next fall and will be a great addition to the Chippewas. The D1 All-State player has all the shots and swing speeds you can ask for, but has really polished her defensive play as well.
62. Kaela Chingwa Kaela Chingwa 6'3" | MB North Branch | 2024 State MI , MH North Branch
Chingwa returned to the North Branch lineup late in the season and gave the Broncos that final push to another state championship in 2023. The 6’3” middle provided North Branch with size at the net it didn’t have early in the year and she didn’t miss a beat in her ability to impact opposing shots and finish at a high rate offensively.
21. Piper Risdon Piper Risdon 5'11" | MB Lowell | 2024 State MI , MH Lowell/FaR Out
Risdon is going to play college basketball, but she’s also one of the most productive middles in the state as well. A First Team All-State pick in D1, Risdon hit .370 on the season while approaching 500 kills. She just has a natural knack for making plays. Her hand/eye coordination is at an elite level and it has helped her be elite in multiple sports.
12. Kate Maley Kate Maley 6'1" | RS Skyline | 2024 State #153 Nation MI , OH Skyline/Legacy
Maley stepped up in a big way for a Skyline program that lost one of the all-time greats in Michigan volleyball history. Taking on a lead role with the squad, Maley handled herself very well and proved she can be a six-rotation player. Maley improved on her finishing ability and made great strides as a defender. Maley will now take her talents to Loyola-Chicago next fall.
