MVP – Taylor Harrington Taylor Harrington 6'2" | MB Wakefield | 2027 State VA ( Paramount ) – Paramount fell short of winning the tournament, finishing in second place. Normally you select a player from the winning team. Not this time. Taylor stood out as the most dominant player in this tournament. Paramount ignores the quick sets with her in the middle and feeds her high twos. She easily hits the ball around the double blocks. It appears she brings the athleticism to hit outside. The ability to pass and play defense in the back row stick as major unknowns. She could become an offensive threat for six rotations instead of three if this role could fit her.

Left sides – Coco Lewis Coco Lewis 6'2" | OH Herndon | 2027 State VA (Virginia Jrs). Annika Dandridge Annika Dandridge 5'11" | OH TCHS Of Baltimore | 2027 State VA (Maryland Jrs.) Alexa Telly Alexa Telly 6'0" | OH Bullis | 2027 State VA (Metro) – The most dominating pin was perhaps the 6’2″ left side Coco. She attacked from both the back row and front row. When Virginia Jrs. needed to score Coco got the call. From a ranking standpoint Annika is a new player on the horizon. She creates offense in all six rotations. She brings good extension to her swings taking advantage of her 5’11 height. Her approoach jump already reaches 9’9″. Alexa showed the ability to attack while playing all six rotations. With all the pin hitters on Metro’s roster it became difficult to choose one. Alexa earned the MVP award at the Capitol Hill classic 15 Open so her stock is rising. Alexa lists at 6’0.

Middles – Taylor Harrington Taylor Harrington 6'2" | MB Wakefield | 2027 State VA ( Paramount ), Alli Robinson Alli Robinson 6'1" | MB Flint Hill | 2027 State VA (Metro), Dylan Loggins Dylan Loggins 6'2" | MB Howard | 2026 State VA (Maryland Jrs) – Alli seems to perform better in the middle than the right side. In the championship match she rose to the occassion, blocking Taylor Harrington Taylor Harrington 6'2" | MB Wakefield | 2027 State VA at least twice, a confirmation for her vote as best blocker at the Capitol Hill classic. She also finished the first set of the championship match against Paramount with a kill to earn the victory. Dylan has length at 6’2″. She belongs to the class of 2026. Her spikes are powerful with a quick arm swing that swats the ball to the floor. She brings an approach jump of 9’11”. We already spoke of Taylor above.

Setters – Caycee Chhum Caycee Chhum 5'7" | S Georgetown Day | 2027 State VA (Metro), Megan Phan Megan Phan 5'7" | S Bullis | 2026 State VA (Virginia Jrs) – At 5’7″ Caycee normally sets from the back row. When you play for Metro you are usually loaded with athletic pins who measure 6 foot or greater. Caycee makes setting look easy, creating some deception with the jump set that sometimes draws the blockers up. Megan set a 5/1 for Virginia Jrs.. Last year she played up for the 16 team and set a 6’2. This year she plays down a year but gets the opportunity to control the offense playing some front row. She also stands 5’7″ but brings a longer wing span that allows her to reach over the net and create a decent block.

Liberos – Kaniyah Ball Kaniyah Ball 5'5" | DS/L Frederick | 2028 VA (Metro), Ana Djordjevic Ana Djordjevic 5'5" | DS/L Richard Montgomery | 2027 State VA (MVSA) – Kaniyah plays up. Next year will be her first year in high school. She served an ace to win the championship match against Paramount . Kaniyah plays incredible defense with her quick movement and anticipation on the court, impressive for such a young player. She earned the nod as best digger at the Capitol Hill classic in the 15 open. Although she measures 5’5″ Ana appears taller. Her older sister measures 6’0″ and hits outside for MVSA. Ana brings everything to the back row, whether passing or playing defense. She also scores points with a tough serve.

Right side – Olivia Garey Olivia Garey 6'2" | RS West Potomac | 2027 State VA (Metro), Erin Green Erin Green 5'11" | RS Chantilly | 2027 State VA ( Paramount ) – Taylor Harrington Taylor Harrington 6'2" | MB Wakefield | 2027 State VA may have been the top hitter for Paramount , but Erin put down some clutch kills as well. With the left sides going up to help the middle block Taylor, Erin saw some daylight over the net when she got set and took advantage, putting a number of balls down. Garey strung together a number of clutch kills in the championship match, where she accumulated at least seven kills, including her last one that gave Metro an 18-17 lead in the third set. At 6’2″ she can be a difference maker on the right side.
Chesapeake Chirps – Metro 18 played in their fifth qualifier this past weekend, the Music Festival in New Orleans. For the fifth time they qualified for the gold bracket. In the end they finished ninth for the tournament….Four qualifiers this weekend. Big South, Windy City, Red Rock and Pacific Northwest. With all these teams spread out this could be a good opportunity for teams to earn or up their bids. Also, the Northeast qualifier in some of the non-open categories are up for grabs.
