Amelia Scovell
Amelia Scovell
2027 prospect, Amelia Scovell, definitely makes her setter’s job a LOT easier. You can tell she has put in a lot of hours perfecting her form and angles so that she can deliver the best pass possible. She currently plays on Dig This! VBC 15 Black National team, who recently secured a 2nd place finish at the 2024 Cactus Classic Invitational back in January. Her high school, Coronado High School, finished 2nd in the state volleyball championship and should go far again with her skills as libero. She is definitely on my watch list as a player that will quickly become one of the best in the state in her position.
Chloe’s serve receive game is right up there with some of of the top liberos in the state. She passes well, covers well and has a killer jump serve. Her club team, Tstreet LV Chris 17-1, is currently ranked 8th in the Southern California Region according to the SportsEngine AES Power rankings. Despite playing on the JV team last season at Bishop Gorman High School, I believe Lopez has a strong chance of making their varsity team as a defensive specialist or libero. I will get a chance to see her in action this weekend at Red Rock Rave in Las Vegas.
Highlights
Jesva Lucero
Jesva Lucero
One thing about Lucero is that she is not afraid to hit the floor! She covers an insane amount of court by simply never thinking any ball is out of range for her to pass. This type of mentality will get you far because it boosts your confidence inspiring you to get even more tough balls and it ultimately helps your team get another chance to score a point. Lucero is currently playing on Dig This! VBC 18s Black who finished 5th at the 2024 Cactus Classic Invitational back in January. I look forward to seeing Jesva play in person soon.
Ariella Perez
Ariella Perez
After watching film on Ariella Perez, it’s apparent that she has worked very hard on dropping her shoulders to get the ball to the setter from anywhere on the court. She has a very good jump float serve that is likely to get you 1-2 aces at the least per match. Perez is already a standout to me as a freshman and I look forward to continuing coverage on her for the remainder of her high school and club career.
The libero position demands exceptional skill and determination on the court, and the girls I mentioned above have demonstrated their commitment to mastering it.
I will get a chance to see several of these liberos in action and more new faces at the SCVA Red Rock Rave Qualifier this weekend in Las Vegas.
