I don’t often watch 14U teams, so this should be a treat. I am currently putting together the first Class of 2028 rankings, so I am looking forward to seeing some of the best club talent compete in that age group.
Here is a report on eight players whose information was shared by their club coaches. If any high school coach, club coach, or athlete would like to make suggestions for the initial Class of 2028 Kansas rankings please feel free to email me at deckscoutks@gmail.com or follow and direct message me on X @KSScoutDeck or come find me tomorrow. I know it seems a long time away, but athletes who want to play college ball need to start putting together video packages and social media accounts to prepare for the recruiting process.
Hailey Schmidtlein Hailey Schmidtlein 6'0" | MB Hayden | 2028 State KS , 6’0”, MH, Hayden, ’28 (Topeka Saints 14-1)
Schmidtlein is one of two players among this group who I have seen before. I scouted a Topeka Saints practice and scrimmage in January. I was impressed by her physicalness and hitting ability that day. I look forward to seeing how she does against elite competition.
Blakely Walter Blakely Walter 5'5" | S Washburn Rural Middle School | 2028 KS , 5’6”, S/RS, Washburn Rural, ’28 (Topeka Saints 14-1)
Like Schmidtlein, I have seen Walter once before. She plays with a ton of energy which her teammates feed off of. Now I want to see how she plays in tough situations and how well she runs an offense in game action.
Vivian Goode Vivian Goode 6'0" | OH St. Thomas Aquinas | 2028 State KS , 6’0”, OH, St. Thomas Aquinas, ’28 (MAVS KC 14-1)
A six-foot freshman will catch anyone’s eye. Goode who will attend St. Thomas Aquinas has “GOOD” size on paper, (see what I did there) so now I want to see what she can do in person.
Nora Goodenow, 6’1”, MH, St. Thomas Aquinas, ’28 (MAVS KC 14-1)
The MAVS KC 14-1 squad has another six-footer on its roster. St. Thomas Aquinas historically has a competitive volleyball program at the state level, so I will be interested in seeing two future Saints play.
Ashlynn Kennedy Ashlynn Kennedy 5'4" | S Spring Hill | 2028 State KS , 5’4”, S, Spring Hill, ’28 (913 Athletics 14-1)
Spring Hill High School is always a solid program and setters are sometimes difficult to stat, but I look forward to seeing 913’s setter show off her skills.
Mika Nichols Mika Nichols 5'8" | MB Blue Valley Southwest | 2028 State KS , 5’8”, MB, Blue Valley Northwest, ’28 (913 Athletics 14-1)
Middle blockers are my favorite position to scout. It’s partly because of the defensive and offensive linemen in me. One middle I hope has a solid performance is 913’s Nichols.
Lilianah Jackson Lilianah Jackson 5'11" | MB Lansing | 2028 State KS , 6’0”, MB/OH, Lansing, ’28 ( Dynasty 14-1)
I watched Lansing last season multiple times as a part-time sports writer for the Leavenworth Times. It’s a program that has produced multiple college volleyball players. Jackson might well be ready to jump into that line. I plan on keying in on her game when I watch Dynasty 14-1 compete.
Jensen Kubik Jensen Kubik 5'11" | OH Blue Valley West | 2028 State KS , 5’11”, OH/RS, Blue Valley West, ’28 ( Dynasty 14-1)
Jackson’s teammate Kubik appears to be an athlete with some serious versatility. Blue Valley West is another perennial 6A power whose players I enjoy keeping track of.
