In preparation for the first edition of the Kansas Class of 2028 rankings I scouted three 14U Power League matches on March 9, in Shawnee Kansas.

Two teams that I saw play were the 14U representatives from the new volleyball club 913 Athletics. The second team was the MAVS KC 14-1 team. Here is a report on prospects from both of those clubs that caught my eye.

If any high school coach, club coach, or athlete would like to make suggestions for the initial Class of 2028 Kansas rankings please feel free to email me at deckscoutks@gmail.com or follow and direct message me on X @KSScoutDeck. I know it seems a long time away, but athletes who want to play college ball need to start putting together video highlights and social media accounts to prepare for the recruiting process.

913 Athletics is a new club in the Kansas City Metro area. The team is composed of a roster filled with Kansas prospects. They are an undersized team, but they play solid defense.

I watched 913's first match of the day which was a two-set loss to Mizuna [program_tooltip program_id='515493' first='Club' last='North'] made up of primarily Missouri prospects. Here are four players from 913 who stood out, but look for six or more players from their roster in the initial Class of 2028 rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='518362' first='Cora' last='Anderson'], 5'5”, OH, ‘28 (Shawnee Mission Northwest)

Anderson was one of the most well-rounded players I saw in the Power League action. She can jump out of the gym and could be a future six-rotation player for her high school program. She recorded two kills, seven digs, and six serve receptions. She is quick and athletic, and I enjoyed her game.

[player_tooltip player_id='518364' first='Ashlynn' last='Kennedy'], 5'4”, S, '28 (Spring Hill)

Kenney was one of two players from this squad that I featured in Friday's preview of the event. She is a talented setter who works hard to distribute the ball to all of her attacking options. In the loss, she finished with six assists and two digs in a contest that featured a ton of missed serves by both squads.

[player_tooltip player_id='518367' first='Addilyn' last='Mize'], 5'3”, DS/L, '28 (Blue Valley)

Mize is a solid libero who might be an inch or so taller than I was told. She has a quiet defensive frame and does a nice job of not reaching for the ball. She filled up her stat line with 10 digs and five serve receptions.

Riley Gibbs, 5'3”, DS/L, '28 (Spring Hill)

Gibbs plays the ball rather than letting the ball play her. She was impressive and made a couple of digs on hard-hit balls I didn't think she had a chance to pass. Gibbs finished with eight serve receptions and five digs in the loss to [program_tooltip program_id='515493' first='Club' last='North'].

MAVS KC is a club team mixed with prospects from both Missouri and Kansas. They lost a three-set match against [program_tooltip program_id='428892' first='PVA' last=''] 14-1. Here is a quick look a four of their Kansas prospects who were impressive.

[player_tooltip player_id='518379' first='Grace' last='Bengfort'], 5'8”, OH, '28 (Shawnee Mission Northwest)

Benfort was one of the top hitters I scouted on Saturday and honestly just about every player on the MAVS-KC roster can hit. It was one of the deepest-hitting teams of the six I saw play. Bengfort finished with five kills which was tied for the team lead.

[player_tooltip player_id='518375' first='Vivian' last='Goode'], 6'0”, OH, '28 (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Goode is a quick and athletic pin who could one day be a six-rotation stalwart. She recorded five digs, four serve receptions, and two kills. She has an accurate serve and has a ton of volleyball ahead of her.

[player_tooltip player_id='518378' first='Claire' last='Ashley'], 6'0”, OH, '28 (Olathe West)

Ashley finished with four kills for the MAVS in the three-set loss. She has some bounciness to her game and moves well. I am not sure she is done growing and was one of the more physical players on the MAVS KC roster.

[player_tooltip player_id='518373' first='Elizabeth' last='Weinert'], 5'10”, MB, '28 (Olathe North)

Weinert played front row only, but I like her potential. She finished with two kills in limited playing time. I will have to try to catch an Olathe North and Olathe West match-up next fall as I would like to see her and Ashley again.
