The Red Rock Rave is a gigantic tournament, that attracts club teams from the entire country, and in the second week of action, over 1,000 of them will be on the court, competing across 15 divisions in the 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s age groups.
Teams from Texas will obviously make the trip West to have another shot at qualifying for the USA Volleyball Girls National Championships coming up between April and June. As we prepare for the start of the event, let’s take a look at some promising prospects from the Lone Star State that will be on the court. These right sides are expected to have big offensive roles with their teams:
Talia Nelson
Talia Nelson
Nelson will be one of the main offensive weapons in her TAV Houston 15 Adidas team that will compete in the 15 Open division. A lefty with an incredible vertical, she can can score against anyone and has a lot of interesting offensive tools that she uses to beat blockers and defenders. Although not very tall, Nelson is extremely explosive and it’s easy to see how much power there is in her game every time she goes up at the net to swing. Nelson is also a productive blocker, who uses her long arms well to get in the way of opposing hitters.
McAllister and her STVA 16 Mizuno team will be in action in the 16 Open division this weekend. She’s a key piece in their playing system with her ability to perform multiple roles and typically splits time between right side hitter and libero. Her versatility is strongly connected with her excellent all-around game, which allows her to pass, dig, set, swing and block at a very high level. A lefty, McAllister is a potent and efficient hitter, who uses her length very well and makes excellent choices with her shot selection.

Ochelli and her Houston Skyline 17 Black team will get on the court in the 17 USA division. Originally a middle, she moved to the right a couple of years ago and has continued to develop her game since then. Ochelli always had the size and the physical tools to thrive on both sides of the ball playing the position, but has been able to develop technically and mentally. Her offense is very powerful and much more consistent now while her blocking translated extremely well to the right, making of her a big obstacle to pin hitters trying to score on her team.

Helms will be with United VBA 18 Adidas in the 18 USA division in Vegas. Very long and powerful, she has been the focal point of the team’s offense for some years and always responded well, scoring at a good volume and delivering in key moments of matches. This season, Helms has been spending some time at the left and her production hasn’t dropped even a bit. She’s also a solid blocker, who uses her length and her positioning at the net to make stops and force opponents to hit around her.

Croshaw and her Madfrog 18’s N Green team will be among the contenders in the 18 Open division of the event. An extremely physical player, she joined from Drive Nation this season and has helped strengthen the team’s game at the net. Croshaw can hit at a very high level in the middle and the right, which allows for her setter to get creative with combinations and move her around, making it harder for opponents across the net – she’s excellent at hitting the slide set. Her blocking is also extremely productive and makes of her team a very difficult one to score at.
