Ranked as 21st and the second-ranked setter in the class, Johnson has been fun to watch for her Mavs 816 team this spring leading the offense and helping them earn a bid to nationals. She had a strong freshman debut, totaling just under 500 assists. She has a high volleyball IQ and soft hands. She is a true court general and keeps the offense flowing.
Highlights
The third-ranked setter, right behind Johnson is Rockwood setter Elle Lanfersieck Elle Lanfersieck 5'9" | S Parkway West | 2027 MO . She runs a two-setter offense with Mo Wiezorek. If you are wondering about her absence, she resides in Illinois. But back to Elle, she is a good decision-maker and does well at holding the defense. She has also proven her worth as a defender in the back row.
Highlights
Conner comes in at 41 and sets for the Mavs KC 15-2 team that earned a Liberty bid for nationals. What stands out first and foremost is her play at the net. At 5’11”, she has good length and makes most of it with numerous blocks this spring. She is another setter who due to her height and play on the front row can be offensive and catch teams sitting on her hitters with second ball dumps.
Highlights
Invasion has been a fun team to watch this spring and will go at it in the USA division at nationals. One of the catalysts to the team’s success is Grohs. Standing at 5’6″, she doesn’t have the size of many of the other setters in the class but she makes up for it with a high volleyball IQ. Her reading of the defense allows her to set her hitters up in favorable scenarios to score points. As a back row setter, she is also valuable defensively in right back.
Highlights
The common theme for all of our setters thus far is they have been instrumental in helping their teams secure a spot at nationals. Estes fits that mode as well, Estes is one of the better backsetters in this group of setters ranked in the top 60. She doesn’t telegraph her decision and it gets her right-side hitter one-on-one situations often. She is accurate in pushing out to the left pin and I can see her developing a quicker set to her middles soon.
Highlights
Lowery sets for the Rockwood 15 Navy team and is a fun player to watch. She plays with emotion and celebrates with her team after every score. She is all over the court making quality sets on not-so-great passes. As the 7th-ranked setter, she is among the best in gap sets and has good speed and rhythm in delivering them to her middles.
