It takes awhile for setters to develop their skill. A lot of repetitions to get those quick sets perfected. Even at travel ball at the 14 and even 15 level most club teams do not run the quick sets. Also, for the most part clubs only use setters in three rotations, rotating them out once they reach the front row for a bigger outside.

Setters have the responsibility for running an offense. When you are a frosh that means younger players telling older players what to do. It takes a lot of trust and confidence for seniors to follow a frosh setter. Below are some setters who started for their high school team as frosh and how they performed in club this year. How far the high school team progresses may depend on their improvement over the season. This coming year a new crop of frosh will make their presence known.

Last year Caycee set for Chantilly. She ranks as our top setter in the class of 2027. Probably the number one setter for Chantilly, leading them to the semi-finals of the Regional playoffs. They lost to eventual state champion Langley, falling short of appearing in the state bracket. Caycee led the team in assists. She also earned a spot on the first team for the Concorde District and seems to win the top setter award every year at the Capitol Hill Classic.

Caycee also sets for Metro, one of the top clubs in the area. Metro 15 will play in Las Vegas in the National Division at the USAV Nationals. At 5'7" she primarily sets only in the back row.

Last year Ingrid set both a 5/1 and a 6/2 for Dominion. Ingrid led her team in assists last year, acquiring almost twice as many as the second setter. Dominion qualified for the Class 4 Regional playoffs last year where they lost in the first round to Loudoun County.

Ingird also sets for the [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] 15 team.
[player_tooltip player_id='448705' first='Danika' last='Swanson'] (Patriot/American) - Danika led the Pioneers in assists last year. She also excelled on the defensive end as well, finishing second in digs. As if that was not enough, she finished second in aces. That got her a spot on the second team all Regional. Patriot made the Regional playoffs last year but lost in the first round to Colgan. Danika stands 5'9" with an approach jump of 9'4" so she brings some height to the position. At American she played up one year, setting a 5/1 for the 16 team. American will be playing in the Club Division at AAUs in Orlando.

Paisley put together 13 assists in the semi-finals of their Regional playoff loss against James Wood. She took over for Madison Koeller, who was an All State selection and player of the year for the Northwestern District. What helped her is that Millbrook was a young team last year with a number of frosh taking over roles for the varsity. The fact that they made the playoffs bodes well for them this coming season. Paisley earned first team honors in the Northwestern District.

At 5'3" Vivian will be limited to back row setting. She is the second setter from the Maryland area. At the Battle of Bethesda she made my all frosh team, playing for Clarksburg.

Vivian also sets for MVSA Charge. They earned a spot in the National Division at the Junior Nationals in Las Vegas.
Not really too sure what high schoos will be featuring top tier setting talent. The DMV Frosh showcase on August 3 may give a hint of that. While there are not a lot of players I have listed on the rankings from the class of 2028 three players stand out to possibly make an impact. Not too clear yet what high school they plan to attend. The top setters right now are [player_tooltip player_id='536715' first='Breeze' last='Johnson'] ([program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] followed by [player_tooltip player_id='536724' first='Ariel' last='Callwood'] (Metro) and Katelyn Rolf (Paramount).
