Class of 2025 State Rankings Players to Know: Setters

The Prep Dig Texas State Rankings were updated last month in a moment that was long expected for volleyball prospects in the Lone Star State.   More than moving players up and down in a list, the rankings update offers us an opportunity to paint a more realistic picture of the current scenario in Texas and highlight the prospects who experienced significant development over the last few months.   The process of updating the rankings also gives us, Prep Dig scouts, the perfect excuse to learn more and more about the players, be it by attending matches or tournaments in person or researching online, and now with the list released, it's time we share some of our findings.   Over the last few weeks, I've been going over the rankings, highlighting some players in each class. With the Classes of 2027 and 2026 already covered, it's time we now look into the 2025s, beginning from the setters.      A staple for her Weiss High School and AJV 17 Adidas club team, Brown is ranked fifth among the setters and 30th overall in our Class of 2025 State Rankings. She has some of the best hands in the age group and that shows every time she makes contact with the ball, hitting very precise locations and putting her hitters in a great position to score. Brown is also very athletic and that gives her a little something extra when she has to track passes or work with tight ones up at the net. The setter is also very calm and intelligent, delivering great decisions and executing well in key moments.    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGFXZqpUMNM </div></figure>    By running the offenses of her high school team Wakeland and her club side TAV 17 Black, Pfiffner earned recognition as the sixth-best setter and the 31st-best player in the state in her age group. Her release is extremely smooth and she gets to push the ball to her middles without getting off the floor in a way that only absolutely elite setters can do. A lefty, Pfiffner is also well above average when it comes to setter dumps as hers is actually a true swing, which in the vast majority of the time gets unresponded because of its power and explosiveness. She's also an extremely intelligent player, who thrives with her decision-making, especially in moments of high pressure.   <a href="https://sportsrecruits.com/athlete/sarah_pfiffner?video=3712759">Highlights</a>     The starting setter of Killeen Chaparral High School and the Roots 17-1 Green club team, Gray is another special talent in the Class of 2025, ranking eighth among the setters and 59th overall. She's the complete package at setter, meaning that she combines the technical, physical and mental skills needed to thrive in the position. She's excellent at keeping her team in a strong offensive rhythm, doing whatever she can to keep all hitters involved and remaining consistent with her locations. A lefty, Gray uses her athleticism extremely well at the net, scoring off of setter dumps and doing solid work with her blocking.      The 13th best setter and the 79th prospect to appear in our Rankings, Massie is a standout prospect from the Houston area, where she plays high school ball for Manvel and club with HJV 17 Elite. She has been a key piece in Manvel's recent successful seasons and makes the most of an excellent group of hitters with HJV. She's ice-cold on the court and makes good decisions and delivers accurate sets even in the most difficult moments of matches. Besides being an excellent playmaker, Massie also performs very well with her blocking and defense, coming up with big plays in key moments.    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://x.com/KenedyMassie/status/1782451039389483382 </div></figure>    A high school volleyball start with Harlan, De La Rosa sets for SA Juniors 17 Adidas at the club level - she's ranked 20th among the Class of 2025 setters and 119th overall. Her hands are among the very best in the age group and very few setters managed to remain consistent in the way she does throughout matches and tournaments. One of the keys to De La Rosa's efficiency is her impressive mobility, which allows her to track passes anywhere on the court and turn them into hittable sets.
