SCVA Girls 15U Championships: Consistently Improving

As the SCVA season draws to a close, PrepDig was on-site for Day 1 of the Girls 15U Championships at the Momentous Gym in Irvine. The venue was filled with familiar faces, all eager to cap off their season with a great showing to the college coaches in attendance and the hope of earning a final SCVA medal.   Throughout the day, players showcased the skills they have fine-tuned over the club year. However, the following athletes have displayed consistent improvement throughout the season, indicating they have not yet peaked and there is even more potential to be realized.      At the beginning of the season, Jaycee and I discussed her position change. She set a goal for herself to become a six-rotation outside hitter and worked diligently with her coach to achieve it. In my article, "<a href="https://prepdig.com/2023/12/pick-6-freshmen-set-to-shine-in-club/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pick 6: Freshmen Set to Shine in Club</a>," she stated, "All those colleges that were interested in me as a middle blocker, they are going to have to see me be just as good as an outside hitter to still want me. And I'm absolutely up for that challenge.” This season, Jaycee has truly flourished in her new position. Her timing on the outside is impeccable, as she patiently waits before starting her approach. Jaycee's swing is unique, characterized by a wind-up arm motion that poses significant challenges for blockers. As a result of her hard work, she has become one of the strongest hitters in the gym. College coaches looking for a hardworking, determined player should strongly consider Jaycee as a top contender for their roster. Michelle Bamford @ PrepDig         [player_tooltip player_id='515402' first='Janiah' last='Burrage'] can simply fly. With a remarkable 10'7” vertical (Updated 6/4/24), she has consistently improved her game, emerging as one of the most sought-after recruits in her class nationwide. Exceptionally strong on the outside, Janiah consistently puts the ball away with authority. When she is set, it's not a question of if she will execute, but rather which impressive attack she will showcase. The most remarkable thing to remember when watching Janiah play is that she is in the class of 2028. Colleges will have to wait to reach out to her, but at this rate of progression, she will undoubtedly have her pick of offers when the time comes. Over the course of the season, she has shown remarkable improvement, solidifying her status as an aggressive hitter. Maya has a disciplined platform on serve receive, displaying patience and precision with her passing. Her eagerness to call for sets demonstrates her proactive mindset. Offensively, she can hit the ball down the line or at an angle with equal effectiveness. Defensively, she is ready and disciplined at the net, showing no self-doubt on the court. Maya's hunger to win and continuous improvement make her an ideal candidate for most college program. College coaches looking for a driven and versatile player should strongly consider Maya for their roster. Makenna is able to deliver on the court from both the front row and the back row. She consistently makes herself an offensive option, always calling for the ball to be set to her. At the net, McKenna is a formidable blocker with a solid press, playing with great energy and fire. From the back row, Makenna is patient with her approach and expertly places the ball in the corners. Any program looking for a solid six-rotation player who is hungry for victory should definitely consider Makenna as a valuable addition to their roster. Over the course of the season, she has shown significant improvement, becoming even more of an asset for her team. Kirah is a solid server down the line, generating impressive power from her legs. Her ability to recover quickly and maintain focus on her team is commendable. Kirah excels in communication, ensuring she remains an offensive option for her setter while also supporting her teammates. Notably, she effectively hits from the back row, making her a versatile and valuable player.
