The Best Middles from Freshman Showcase

<p>There were a lot of blocks and kills from the middle at the Nebraska Freshman Showcase. These athletes were on fire and showing their skills with ease. Let us take a look at who stood out in the following analysis.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Maryn Arkfeld</h2>   <p>Arkfeld is a 5'9" middle hitter from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Arkfeld is very athletic and a great jumper. She loves to play the edges of the court and does it very well. She has a great understanding of the back boundary and hits it all of the time. She is good at playing the angles at the net as well. She can sneak the ball past you before you realize what she has done by beating you to the ball and using the top of the net to get it gone. She is a smart athlete with a high volleyball IQ and understands the game better than most.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='572011' first='Elliana' last='Bass']</h2>   <p>Bass is a 5'9" middle hitter from Papillion South High School. She dominates the court when playing. She is an impressive blocker and a hard hitter. She has impressive athleticism and really makes her opponents earn each point gained from her team. She works hard and makes it look like it is difficult to score against her. She has big hands and uses them to play good defense as well as offense. She is a good server, hitter, blocker, and receiver. She handles the ball well playing outside and middle at the showcase. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Peyton Brehmer</h2>   <p>Brehmer is a 5'10" middle hitter from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Brehmer is a powerful hitter in the middle and knows just how to make her opponents hurt. She has a long reach and uses that to her advantage to block anything trying to come over the net in her direction. She is good at popping up errant balls and can play defense too. Froehlich is a great athlete. She has speed, agility, and quickness on the court. She is a powerhouse at the net and hits and blocks with skill. She has a tough swing and blasts the ball past her opponents in the middle. She was a joy to watch at the showcase and I cannot wait to see her in another couple of years as her skills peak in high school.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ally Jonaitis</h2>   <p>Jonaitis is a 5'6" middle hitter from Skutt Catholic High School. She has the reach and can get the kills. She has good defensive qualities as well. She reacts quickly to the ball and can pop it up to the setter to get a rally going. She can get below the ball and pop it up well. She has good serves and receives the ball well. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Claire Luthi</h2>   <p>Luthi is a 5'9" middle hitter from Gretna High School. Luthi makes a slide look easy. She is quick, athletic, and jumps with ease. I watched her handle all kinds of sets at the showcase and I did not see her miss one hit while I watched her. She is impressive and looks ready for the fall already. She hits well and blocks like it is second nature to her. She can hit anywhere on the court and be successful. She plays good defense. She will be an asset to any team she is playing with.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='568836' first='Laila' last='McGaugh']</h2>   <p>McGaugh is a 5'11" middle hitter from Bennington High School. McGaugh is quick on her feet and has great athleticism on the court. She moves to the ball and has a smart and powerful swing. She is great at playing the boundaries on the court and is a great blocker. She is a determined athlete and keeps going up until the job is done at the net. She has big hands and a big block that will work well against most opponents. She looks ready.</p>
