California High School Report Vol 5

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The high school season is now upon us!&nbsp; Who has what it takes to win the coveted State Championship?&nbsp; California is one of the best states in the nation when it comes to this wonderful sport and we are here to highlight all of our amazing teams and players.&nbsp; Let's meet a few of the teams and players who are poised for a solid run this season.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Marina Vikings</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This squad just competed in the Las Vegas Classic tourney and won it with some impressive matches.  They are an up and coming team who is looking to make a name for themselves amongst the elite.  This tournament championship is a step in the right direction.  A juggernaut attacker who we have seen a few times in our club showcases this past year leads their attack.  Stud sophomore outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='532638' first='Korynn' last='Mayo'] is proving that she is a name that college recruiters need to know with her offensive exploits so far this high school season.  She has been getting double the attempts of the next best hitter and for good reason.  This young lady can flat out score the ball with authority.  Her counterpart scorer is [player_tooltip player_id='515091' first='Brooklyn' last='Enriquez'] who is a fellow sophomore that flies high above the net.  Freshman libero [player_tooltip player_id='514998' first='Rylee' last='Hartwell'] is a key piece for this team's ball control.  She leads them in digs and has been a monster all over the court covering a large area to keep the ball off of the floor.  Junior setter Alyssa Enriquez and freshman setter [player_tooltip player_id='515073' first='Cienna' last='Enriquez'] are the hands that fuel the offense of the Vikings.  They run a solid 6-2 offense and feed their work horses well.  Sophomore outside Aurora Holmes is another solid arm that looks to help this team play at a high level.  She is a great third option to add to this team's kill total and take some pressure off of Mayo.  They have our attention now and we cannot wait to see how they progress through the season to get some much needed experience for the future. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Marymount Sailors</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This squad has been highly touted coming into this season with who they have returning on their roster.&nbsp; Junior standout outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='391084' first='Samantha' last='(Sammy) Destler'] is a prime candidate for MVP of the match anytime she takes the floor for this squad.&nbsp; This super athlete has been a kill waiting to happen for the past couple of years and looks like she is not stopping anytime soon.&nbsp; You cannot stop her.&nbsp; You can only hope to slow her down enough for your team to end the rally.&nbsp; Not only is she leading the team in kills, she is doing it at a very impressive clip with a hitting percentage of .462.&nbsp; Sensational sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='482032' first='Makenna' last='Barnes'] has a cannon for an arm and has been unleashing it early this high school season.&nbsp; This dynamic duo of pins will be a hard out for any opposing defense.&nbsp; Junior middle [player_tooltip player_id='391096' first='Frankie' last='Jones'] and sophomore middle Katelyn Oerlemans have been a great 1-2 punch on both the offensive and defensive end for the Sailors.&nbsp; The back row for Marymount is solid with senior libero [player_tooltip player_id='706319' first='Addison' last='Townsend'] at the helm.&nbsp; She has a lot of experience in the past couple of years and they will need her leadership.&nbsp; Her counterpart is sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='511345' first='Karys' last='Campos'] who is very capable of helping out on the defensive end.&nbsp; Senior [player_tooltip player_id='366835' first='Ryan' last='Gilhooly'] adds some depth to this offense and is in her third year on varsity, so her leadership will be needed also.&nbsp; Senior [player_tooltip player_id='366675' first='Logan' last='Devereux'] is a tall and strong player who gives this team a lot of depth along the net and can be used on either pin.&nbsp; Let's see how they fare during the tough high school season.&nbsp;
