We lost some seniors and had injuries to key players from last year, so new teammates had to step up into big roles. I hadn’t played with them before, but I’m proud of how we grew together into varsity-level contributors and finished third in the Sunset League, earning a move up to Division 2 for playoffs, which was a huge milestone! During my freshman year, the seniors welcomed me and made me feel like an important part of the team, and it feels great to be able to do the same for our new players.”

Korynn Mayo Korynn Mayo 6'0" | OH/RS Marina | 2027 State CA brought hustle and presence to every drill, approaching the college camp with a focus on effort and flow. She embraced the fast pace of gameplay and stood out with her ability to stay active and engaged. One play she highlighted was a one-armed dig from the right side that turned into an overpass, small but meaningful in showing her determination to make a play and keep the ball alive.

What stood out most to Korynn was the way coaches created space for athletes to figure things out through reps rather than over-instructing. “It wasn’t as much step-by-step instruction, but more just letting you figure things out for yourself,” she shared. That approach helped her see the value of a coach who knows when to push and when to encourage. She’s looking for a program where that balance is clear. Her advice to others: “Don’t be nervous. Her primary goal for the tournament is simple: leave everything on the court. This mindset drives her every match, ensuring she consistently puts forth her best effort to contribute to her team’s success.

In preparation for the season and this highly competitive event, Korynn has doubled down on her training. Beyond team practices, she has incorporated additional strength and skills training into her routine while fine-tuning her nutrition to ensure peak performance.

Please officially welcome Korynn to the State Rankings.  She is currently ranked as the 28^th best overall player according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.  She plays for Marina High School and also for the United Volleyball club program.  Miss Mayo has been written about before as we have seen her up close and personal in many national tournaments and also our Prep Dig Showcases.  This young lady continues to turn heads as she is progressing at a very fast rate.  We could all see that she has some immense power in her strong frame as she unleashed it on anyone who got in her way.  But now she is showcasing her abilities all around the court.  Her ability to dig the ball with not only her platform but also her hands has her rising up the ranking list fast.  As she is getting older and growing into her tall and strong frame, the game seems like it has slowed down for her.  You can see her processing things so rapidly and being very decisive about what she wants to do with the ball.  There is no doubt in my mind that she has what it takes to continue to rise.  If you do not know who she is by now, I strongly suggest you write her name down to watch her this coming club season.  Please help us congratulate her on earning a spot in our prestigious State Rankings. 

Korynn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2027 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but that will change very soon when I update the list in a few weeks.  She plays for Marina High School and also plays for the United Volleyball Club program.  I was introduced to Miss Mayo during her freshman campaign and was blown away by her raw natural power.  After watching her in action during the club season, I have been very intrigued to see how she would fare for her second high school season and boy am I impressed.  She has gotten even better and stronger this year.  Currently she is sitting at 417 kills on a very impressive .262 hitting percentage.  She has dwarfed her kill total from all of last season and there is still more season to complete.  Regularly scoring in double figures, Korynn is not afraid of the spotlight and loves to compete at the highest level possible.  I love how she pounds the ball with uncanny natural power and then scares the defense with her next off-speed shots.  The defensive players have to dig in the heels to the ground as they expect a hard driven swing from her and she makes them pay with timely tips right over the block.  Opposing defensive players cannot get their weight transitioned forward fast enough to make a play and the ball lands for more kills.  While a lot of players have to take long approaches in order to create momentum and power in their swing, Korynn is able to generate tons of power jumping straight up sometimes and this speaks volumes about just how strong she actually is.  Stay tuned for more from this juggernaut as the season comes to a close.
