The WIAA combined Districts this season, leaving the state with six overall, each with its name (and number) and a set number of state opportunities. The 2B State Tournament begins today, matching the top 16 teams that battled through the playoffs to arrive at the Yakima Sundome. The top four seeds are favorites to fight into the semi-finals, and it will come down to what teams can handle serve-receive the best. (Like Always!)

Preview: Coupeville set a school record for wins and will bring a strong group of seven seniors into their first-round match-up with Tonasket. The Braves from La Conner have just the opposite regarding experience, with four ninth-graders and one eighth-grader on the roster. Seeded 16th, the young players from the Braves will have top-ranked Adna up first on their dance card in Yakima.

Preview: Adna earned the top spot in the tournament with an undefeated season, including a 3-2 victory in a non-league match against Manson. It's the second season in a row that the Pirates have been the top seed; they finished fifth after being upset last season. Five quality senior players are back, hoping to finish the deal in Yakima. Mossyrock has a nice mix of upperclassmen and talented younger players; the Vikings battled hard in the league and are familiar with Adna- taking sets from the Pirates in each of the teams' three meetings. Rainier upset Adna at state last season, and sophomore OH [player_tooltip player_id='498316' first='Allyson' last='Ooms'] can finish a match when the Mountaineers have to terminate a point. Forks roll into Yakima, having won 14 of their last 15 matches and have a roster that dominated the All-league team in the Pacific 2B Conference.

Preview: Manson is the defending state champion and an intelligent pick to return to the championship match. They have just two losses on the season to top-seeded Adna and Chelan from the 1A ranks. Senior OH [player_tooltip player_id='266136' first='Stella' last='Petersen'] may be the top player in 2B, and she can get a crucial kill when Manson needs it. River View has been rolling in the second part of the season and has athletic attackers along the net. The Jaguars from Tri-Cities Prep will have an exciting battle against Liberty in the first round; the team from Pasco has six seniors hoping to make a run to the trophy rounds. Tonasket is strong along the net and has a solid game from the service line- putting pressure on opponents. Goldendale and Warden have recorded big wins this season and are battle-tested against high-quality opponents. It will take significant upsets for the Timberwolves and Cougars to move forward out of the first round.

TOP SEED: Freeman Scotties: 17-2, 3rd Seed.

2. Liberty (Spangle) Lancers: 13-6, 8th Seed.

3. Davenport Gorillas: 15-5, 11th Seed.

4. Colfax Bulldogs: 9-12, 13th Seed.

Preview: Freeman drops down from 1A to 2B after the WIAA reclassification, and they may have the best front line in the tournament, with height and skill at the pins and the middle. If the Scotties can consistently stay in system, they have a chance at a title. Liberty will rely on the strong connection between senior setter Maicy Bothman and senior attacker Kendall Denny when a match is on the line. Colfax has a long and consistent winning tradition, and the Bulldogs found a way to make it to Yakima after an up-and-down season. Their record may be deceiving; Colfax played matches against high-end competition outside the conference. Davenport is a super scrappy squad that makes other teams work hard for a victory. The Gorillas will be a formidable opening-round opponent for Rainier and have a terminal middle in [player_tooltip player_id='539946' first='Naomi' last='Rainwater'].
