We are now T -6 days from the Indiana Expo and in the last week we have had some awesome additions at the middle blocker position. Middles aren't typically the most glamourous of the positions and are oftentimes the workhorses of the front row; they never stop moving and jumping yet never get nearly as much glory as the pins. Let's take a moment to check out the unsung heroes who are coming on 12/7 - both well known to us here at Prep Dig and newcomers too. This is definitely a position where some serious stars could emerge by the end to the day! (If you still need to register, there are some spots remaining!
Middles Who Made an Impact This Fall

[player_tooltip player_id='301138' first='Hayden' last='Ramsey'] (Class of 26): 6'1" - New Palestine HS | The Academy VBC

Hayden was a force to be reckoned with this fall leading the extremely talented 29-5 Dragons in almost every category including kills, kills per set, hitting percentage (.380!), total blocks and total kills. Super excited to have this #8 ranked MB in the class of 2026 in the gym on 12/7.

Taylor Helbert (Class of 27): 5'10" - Lighthouse Christian Academy | Btown VBC

Helbert, like Ramsey, was the statistical leader in most categories as just a sophomore MB. She led the Lions in total kills, kills per set, hitting percentage and total blocks. Her emergence as a leader on the floor this season helped the 1A Lions win their conference championship, as well as get their first two sectional wins in school history.

[player_tooltip player_id='570485' first='ALEXA' last='COBLE'] (Class of 27): 6'1" - Canterbury HS | Empowered 16 Onyx

Alexa is a three-sport athlete (volleyball, golf, basketball) who showed up big for her varsity high school squad this fall. She led the Cavaliers in both hitting percentage and total blocks, while ending up 2nd on the team in kills per set and total kills. Look for her to be a blocking force at the net come 12/7.

[player_tooltip player_id='505196' first='Ava' last='Felgar'] (Class of 26): 6'1" - Manchester HS | Pineapple HP 17U

This past fall Ava led her high school team in total blocks and was 2nd in kills per set, hitting percentage and total kills. She was recently chosen to be a MB on the 17U team for Pineapple High Performance, an extremely high-level club out of Fort Wayne.

[player_tooltip player_id='569786' first='Paityn' last='Lauck'] (class of 28): 6'0" - Fort Wayne Carroll | Empowered VBC

Lauck is the only freshman on this list of middles to see playing time at the varsity level - not to mention that experience was had with the 4A State Champion Carrol Chargers. Paityn saw action in 31 sets, racking up 30 kills, hitting .219 and getting 12 total blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='435568' first='Avery' last='Olsen'] (class of 27): 6'2" - Penn HS | [program_tooltip program_id='430155' first='Team' last='Pineapple'] VBC 16 Black

Olsen is currently ranked #5 for all MBs in the Indiana class of 2027 and is the 19th ranked player in that class overall. Standing at 6'2" she is the tallest of all the middles we will see at the showcase and from watching her film, she will bring some serious competition to the event in terms of blocking and lots of power with her attacking.

Underclassmen MBs Looking to Make Their Mark

[player_tooltip player_id='514770' first='Lainey' last='Wojnowski'] (class of 27): 5'10" - Zionsville HS | Circle City 16 White

Lainey spent her sophomore year of high school at volleyball powerhouse Zionsville HS behind the likes of top prospects Ellie Strecker and [player_tooltip player_id='298600' first='Maddie' last='Herman']. In video, Wojnowski hits well off of one foot behind and also has experience playing OPP, plus she plays against some excellent competition during club season playing at Circle City.

[player_tooltip player_id='725341' first='Grace' last='Watts'] (class of 28): 5'11" - Harrison HS | [program_tooltip program_id='431520' first='The' last='Academy Boiler Jrs']

Grace is just a freshman out of West Lafayette who can play both MB and OPP. She saw limited action with varsity this past season, but in just six sets put up 8 kills and 3 blocks. Definitely looking forward to seeing what Watts can do at both positions.

[player_tooltip player_id='489978' first='Kayliyah' last='Deshields'] (class of 27): 6'1" - Crown Point HS | Ignite VBC

Deshields was on a JV squad at Crown Point that lost just 3 matches all season. Standing at 6'1" she is one of the taller middles coming on 12/7 and I am excited to see what she can bring against such stellar competition.
