Let's address some of the players making their Nebraska 2027 rankings debut.

We've spent several days discussing stock risers from our latest 2027 update, but the changes go beyond that. This list also contains over 20 brand-new names for our database. The recent high school season was the launching point for many of these breakthroughs, and we're ready to discuss these athletes in more detail.

It starts here with Part 1.

Small-town stars will be a prevailing theme among our 2027 new additions. Homan ushers in this theme after a breakout 2024 season with Perkins County. This rangy outside hitter racked up over three kills per set while also carrying a major backcourt role with the Plainsmen. Homan and her team will build off an impressive 23-8 season and have more to gain next fall.

We can always count on Nebraska Christian to find some stat-stuffing middle blockers. Sanborn burst onto the scene with 2.1 kills per set while hitting at a solid 0.267 clip for the Eagles. Like most years, Nebraska Christian boasted one of Class D1's most efficient offenses in 2024. This was aided by some underclassman talent, and Sanborn's development is just getting started.

We couldn't leave out this rising star from the 2024 Class C2 runner-up. Thayer Central captured plenty of attention at the state tournament with its scrappy, ball-control-centric style. Tietjen was a ringleader in that area with nearly five digs per set and even more pinpoint passes to her setter. The Titans often slotted Tietjen in the middle-back area to allow her instincts and quickness to take over. Expect a similar strategy next fall.

Wolff recently garnered mention for her exceptional sophomore season, and now she has a spot in our rankings. The Blair sophomore eclipsed five digs per set for the Bears and could handle any amount of heat in the crosscourt. Wolff's command in the right-back area means that she could also be Blair's setter of the future. On to 2025.

Holtze is ready to lead a new era of Cambridge volleyball. The Trojans made another tournament appearance this fall, but this 2024 lineup was younger than previous iterations. Holtze led Cambridge's large 2027 class with 3.3 kills per set and a team-leading 46 aces. Her all-around impact makes the Cambridge dynasty an early favorite for the 2025 postseason.

Let's add one more libero to the mix. Smith piled up 4.7 digs per set for Ansley-Litchfield to secure her spot in the Top 80. This versatile sophomore spent some time as an outside hitter as a freshman but has flourished in the Spartans' contrasting jersey. As you'd expect, the middle-back area is Smith's favorite place to patrol the end line.

Otto's efficient, high-volume scoring was a game-changer for Raymond Central. She had a solid debut season in 2023 but took a huge step forward a year later with over two kills per set. Otto is primarily a middle blocker, but we won't rule out a future on the pin. The Mustangs have a lot of options with this dynamic athlete.

Why not add another middle-outside hybrid player? Sucha was a terminal force for Niobrara/Verdigre and finished just short of three kills per set in 2024. Even when passes were not perfect, the Cougars found ways to set Sucha on 2-tempo sets in the middle gap. The sophomore effectively became an extra outside hitter who would operate inside the pin. Versatility has propelled Sucha into our watch list, and she could climb even further.

Here's another impact player from a 2024 tournament team. Pruter guided Cross County back into the postseason after putting down 2.5 kills per set from the outside. Her explosive approach made her an ideal choice in out-of-system situations, but Pruter could also drive indefensible swings on first-ball plays. More high-level experience is in Pruter's future.

Martinsen's positional versatility makes her a name to watch heading into 2025. She's listed as a middle blocker and takes a high volume of frontcourt swings at that spot. However, Martinsen is also a back-row mainstay for Elgin Public/Pope John and compiled over 300 digs during her sophomore campaign. Six-rotation middle blockers are a rare phenomenon, but we might have one on the small-town scene.

We're closing out with Elkhorn Valley, a school that has recently produced many notable frontcourt attackers. Rutjens adds to that list after she put down nearly two kills per set as an underclassman starter for the Falcons. She thrived on slower tempos in front of the setter to allow her high contact point to take over. A bigger role awaits in 2025.
