Stock Rising Freshman Setters at Iowa Top 250 Expo

<p>The least experienced setters at the expo were quite impressive. They all had such great fundamental skills that I double-checked my info sheet to make sure I had their year correct. Setters have so much responsibility on the court and need to be mature and able to handle all types of things that happen. These athletes could handle it all and did so with aplomb. Let's look at the things about each of them that make them something special.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='730426' first='Hazel' last='Schluckebier']</h2>   <p>Schluckebier is a 5'10" setter from Iowa City High School. Schluckebier has perfect sets, great blocks, and can hit well. She is a powerful athlete and her height holds her in good stead against other athletes on the court. She has speed and agility and can dig anything on the court and get anything going out of bounds as well. She can hit very powerfully on the right side and is a threat at the net at all times.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Adelyn Stern</h2>   <p>Stern is a 5'9" setter from Center Point-Urbana. Stern is a beautiful distance setter. She can move the ball so well across the court that every time her hitter took a swing she got a kill. It was a combination between the setter and hitter both being extremely good and so fast that the block couldn't catch up with them. Great platform, soft hands, great job moving the ball around to get the best chance for points.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Salina Shaper</h2>   <p>Shaper is a 5'4" setter from Ames High School. Shaper is a very good setter and has a great jump serve. She had a few aces during the expo and was excellent when setting her outside hitters and her opposites. She was a very hittable setter and could dive and dig with the best out there. Nelson is light as air as she uses her hands to move the ball around to any position on the court. She has great hands, an awesome platform, and can block and dig well. She is good in serve/receive and when serving her skills are excellent. She has a high volleyball IQ and always knows what to do on the court. As freshmen, all of these athletes are going to develop by leaps and bounds in the next year or two and this athlete looks great before that has begun. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='730374' first='Adalynne' last='Girdner']</h2>   <p>Girdner is a 5'9" setter from Lynn Mar High School. Girdner is a great outside hitter and when I was watching her court spent much of her time in that position. When it was her turn to set I was amazed that she was great at that skill set too. She has a great vertical, an awesome jump set, and an awesome jump serve. She can block with great timing and she moves the ball with precision and ease all around the court. She could be an athlete on most teams in any position on the court.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='730470' first='Maddie' last='Ireland']</h2>   <p>Ireland is a 5'8" setter from Xavier High School. Ireland has a soft touch while leading her offense on the court. She mixes her sets up between her potential hitters and has a high volleyball IQ. She is strong and can move the ball with speed and accuracy. She has good communication with her hitters and could really get them going offensively while digging and blocking to help her team defensively.</p>
