Shields is enjoying a super senior season for Raiders. Through 71 sets played in 2025, she ranked second in the state with 373 kills, sporting an impressive .344 hitting percentage. Shields brings height and long arms to the net, which allow her to be a productive, two-way player as evidenced by her 61.0 blocks. Her 239 digs reflect her talents as an all-around volleyball player. Watching Shields in club ball, her versatility stands out. She swings well from both pins with a strong vertical leap and power in her right arm. Shields sees the court well and regularly finds holes in the defense.

Into early October, Nevada was performing among the top teams in Class 4A. Senior pin Borwick was a major reason why the Cubs saw themselves as prime candidates to reach the state tournament. During the first 88 sets, Borwick ranked third in all of Iowa with 359 kills (.276). Her 206 digs and 29.0 blocks spoke to her ability to affect matches from all around the court. The first three clips on this highlight video have Borwick ending points with impressive swings from each of the three front-row positions, further proving her worth as a versatile volleyballer. It's surprising more colleges aren't calling on her already.

Hempstead has surprised teams at times this season, and Bryte has been a driving force in the Mustangs staying competitive throughout 2025. After 74 sets, she ranked fifth among all Iowa preps with 314 kills (.282). Her 220 digs and 14.0 blocks highlighted the strength of her all-around game. I saw Bryte during the club season and am not surprised by her success this fall. She's worked hard at improving her game, and it's paying off. Bryte is a steady performer that limits mistakes and brings a lot of intangibles to the court, including leadership and being good teammate.

LeClere ranked sixth among Iowa prep players with 312 kills through West Delaware's first 69 sets of 2025. She operated with efficiency, as well, hitting .326. Her 41.0 blocks and 119 digs highlighted her commitment to defense. LeClere is a bit undersized at the net, but she makes up for it with excellent athleticism, explosion off of the court and a technically sound game. She reads the defense well and finds open spaces to put the ball down. Her vertical leap and timing lead to effective blocks, while quickness and sharp reflexes help in defending the back row.

I watched Luzum-Selmon when she was playing up as a teammate of our daughter years ago. It looked then like she had a chance to develop into a strong prep player. Fast forward to 2025, I noticed her among the state's leaders in kills with 288 through 66 sets. Luzum-Selmon was hitting at a .358 clip as well. That led me to digging around for her highlights from the year, which you can view HERE. You will witness an explosive athlete maximizing her skill set, which occurs after hard work and dedication to the craft. Luzum-Selmon succeeds with an impressive vertical leap, good court vision and a whip-like swing that gets quickly through the zone.

Clayburg ranking among the state's leaders with 260 kills through 46 sets with a .400 hitting percentage led me to seeking out her highlights. When watching them, her success isn't a fluke. Not the tallest player at the net, Clayburg gets the job done by getting up on her jump and finishing points with a quick, powerful swing. She sees the court well, which allows her to attack soft spots in the defense. Clayburg also displays a high volleyball IQ, understanding when to finish points with power or by directing tips into the doughnut.
