As always, I finish out my tournament analysis with those that I consider tournament gems. These players impacted their team in one way or another. It could have been a particular play, set, match, or could have been their overall play during the entire tournament. Maybe they were the best communicator on the team, filled in for someone that was hurt, or were just some final studs that I wanted to mention. Anyways, these players are ones that I consider gems…these players are highly sought after and ones we want to keep track of.

Pladson is 6 rotation outside that showcased a number of skills on the court this past weekend. She had a solid serve that teams had difficultly handling. She also serve received well and played good defense. And in the front row, Pladson went up with no fear and attacked. She generated numerous kills for her team hitting cross, placing tips, or banging it off blockers hands. She truly provided a great effort and was a huge asset for her Freeze team.

Hannah plays up a year with the Tenacity's 16 National team. When I watched her team during bracket play on Sunday, they came up against a talented AVB team and didn't end up as the victors. However, Hannah didn't give up, maintained a positive attitude, and tried to find ways to keep her team in the game. She reversed the ball against the flow, threw down some impressive setter dumps, worked hard on defense, and served aggressively. Truly an A+ effort.

Olson has a big time vertical. Combine that with her timing, speed, and power and you have an electric outside hitter. While her hitting has always been fun to watch, what really made me stop and take a second look was how much her serve receive and defensive game has grown. She showed consistency in both serve receive and digging at the tournament. As the recruitment season starts to gear up for her, I can't wait to see who all comes looking for this gem.

Finding new talent at these tournaments is so much fun and Mullally was a big find for me. The first time I saw her come flying in to hit from the pin, I was impressed. She transitions back and just explodes. Mullally is also impressive from the standpoint that she can unleash her powerful attack not only on in system balls from the setter but on out of system passes as well. She has great timing, good footwork, and knows how to be terminal. Combine all these skills with her height and speed and you have a gem of a player that is going to highly sought after in a few years when it's her turn for recruitment.

Sameera is an up and coming middle with a ton of potential. I watched her during bracket play on Sunday and she made some huge plays for her Crossfire team. She is quick, transitions off the net, and puts herself in position to be an offensive threat. Her net play was also good. She closed the block well, was able to stop many balls from crossing the net, and made several attackers adjust their shots in hopes of going around her.

Fischer is one of those players that you want involved in every play as she can do so many things. She took to the court this weekend and showcased not only her setting skills, but also her attacking, defense, and serving. Due to her versatility, she has both good court and game awareness. While setting, she pushed the ball to the pin and didn't let it die inside giving her hitters optimal balls to terminate, and then while on the hitting side, she showcased an array of shots to generate her own points.
