Northern Lights has really benefitted from Western Wisconsin talent.  Another athlete along the Wisconsin/Minnesota border is Aspen Mullally Aspen Mullally 6'0" | OH Hudson | 2028 State WI .  The 2028 pin attacker preps at Hudson High School, right along the Mississippi River.  Mullally will be playing for Northern Lights 16-2 where she is going to be one to watch scoring points.  She is one of the top 2028s in Wisconsin and on the radar of college coaches this summer.  Her athleticism and physicality will be something to watch as she progresses in her all around game. 

Aspen Mullally made her presence known at the net in the PM wave with a middle’s mindset and a scorer’s finish. Running first-tempo, she was explosive off the floor and contacted high, allowing her to attack sharp deep corners with both pace and control. Her ability to stay on top of the ball while directing it to zones 1 and 5 forced backcourts to defend end line to end line. When in system, she was a reliable scoring option who converted efficiently.

Defensively, Mullally worked laterally to close blocks and showed disciplined hand positioning, taking away seams and influencing swing paths. She did a strong job transitioning from block to attack, staying available and engaged rally after rally. Her combination of tempo, power, and corner placement made her a constant factor in the middle. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Aspen plays with the power and maturity of an upperclassman. She is driven, focused, and efficient on the court. Her pass to attack is pristine, and she can manufacture points in all six rotations. When she was at the Sizzle, several coaches asked me which college she was committed to; they were surprised to learn she was in the class of 2028! Aspen simply has that level of leadership and impact when she plays. She mixes up her shots effectively and is highly disciplined across all her skills.

Aspen Mullally Aspen Mullally 6'0" | OH Hudson | 2028 State WI saw time on the Hudson state tournament team in 2024 and has risen to a new role in 2025.  Mullally has nearly 300 kills on the season and has been the go to attacker for the Pirates.  She is also nearing the 200 dig mark. Her impact has been felt everywhere on the court. Another sophomore for the Raiders is Libby Bartz Libby Bartz 5'11" | OH Hudson | 2028 WI , she is second on the team in kills. With a 24-5 record, Hudson will be the two seed in their section.  If seeding holds, they will potentially face another rematch with River Falls who they have already been defeated twice by the Wildcats. 

Aspen brings an amazing level of play to the court. She is aggressive yet has a fairly low error rate; she is powerful yet has great ball control; she is an offensive weapon yet makes a difference on serve receive and defense. Aspen is an all-around player who can terminate both in and out of system and manufacture points. She is 6’0″ and already a 6-rotation athlete with great endurance and a competitive mindset. Aspen sets herself apart on the court and is a high-level athlete who is already turning heads at big tournaments.

Mullally is a 6 rotation outside that brings many weapons to the game. She is an explosive attacker that can hit a wide array of shots including taking big swings on the out of system balls with much power and force. I love her court awareness and ability to read the floor. She knows where the open spots are goes for them. Mullally’s ability to read at the net is also impressive. She reads the setter well, has clean, quick footwork, and puts up a big block. Mullally is going to be heavily recruited in the next year and a half and I can’t wait to see where she lands.

Finding new talent at these tournaments is so much fun and Mullally was a big find for me. The first time I saw her come flying in to hit from the pin, I was impressed. She transitions back and just explodes. Mullally is also impressive from the standpoint that she can unleash her powerful attack not only on in system balls from the setter but on out of system passes as well. She has great timing, good footwork, and knows how to be terminal. Combine all these skills with her height and speed and you have a gem of a player that is going to highly sought after in a few years when it’s her turn for recruitment.
