Frostbite Festival Faves: Day 2

I ventured back out into the cold to check out the bracket play of the Frostbite Festival in Rochester. MN and the players did not disappoint. Below are a few favorites that caught my attention on day 2.

Ava is a 6 rotation terminal outside with a huge vertical. While that may be what caught my attention initially, she is also great at serve receive and defense. She is constantly hustling, is super scrappy, and made huge saves for her team. She has that “relentless, never give up” attitude that most coaches wish for in a player.

Eggert was fun to watch as she unleashed from the pins. She is fast, fluid, and full of power. The team I watched her play against had some solid blockers up. However, that did not bother her. She went up and over the top of them crushing it repeatedly down the line. Opposing teams are going to have their hands full with her for years to come.

Peck is a solid setter, who I can tell has worked on the other parts of her game. She isn't one of those setters who only focuses on "setting" but rather has put effort and attention into all of it. She hit and blocked well this weekend, played great defense, was a leader on the court, and of course, dished up great assists to her heavy hitting team.

Johnson is by no way the tallest outside hitter that I saw at the tournament this past weekend, but she was definitely one of the most fearless. She went up against some much taller competition in the 18u division and did not back down. Instead, she was crafty and started hitting high hands to score points. She was also super scrappy on defense and showed lots of grit and hustle.

Greenly is one of those competitive, versatile players that does whatever it takes to help her team. She has a fast, heavy arm and could be seen this weekend taking swings from all over the court. She was also calm in tense moments and proved to be a true leader on her team.

This girl has a hammer for an arm. Taylor is a 6 rotation lefty opposite that caught my attention early on Day 2. She is extremely quick, transitions well, and unloads at a very high point of contact. She also knows how to use the blockers to her advantage. She can often be seen scoring points by powering the ball off the block and through it.
