More Setters to Follow in Nebraska 2028 Watch List

It's a rare feat for a position that might only have one player in the starting rotation. Guardian Angels Central Catholic turned to a freshman to lead the offense after claiming Class D1's No. 1 seed in 2023. This first-year starter racked up 8.5 assists per set last fall while piloting one of small-town Nebraska's most efficient offenses. Cohee's cohesive connection with her middle blockers was especially critical to GACC's offense, making the Bluejays a tough in-system squad to stop. Galyen earned plenty of starting reps with Norfolk High School and was particularly proficient when setting out of the back row. Even when Galyen was not distributing the offense, her right-back defense boosted the Panthers against some of Nebraska's best attacking lineups. Bloebaum amassed 4.7 assists per set last fall while setting out of the back row for Columbus High School. We repeatedly praised the Dicoverers for their high-powered, balanced offense, and Bloebaum shares in the credit for this success. Bartunek joined that operation last fall and averaged 6.5 assists per set in her debut season. Like some of the other athletes in this feature, Bartunek often embraces a right-side attacking role when she rotates into the frontcourt. Her aggressive style also allows Bartunek to be a 5-1 setter who puts up a solid block along the net. Jensen saw action through most of Bellevue East's 2024 season and could bring that high-level experience to Premier Nebraska 15 Silver this spring. Sumner will represent 15 Elite this year and could carry on a rich tradition of setter talent at VCN. We might also see Sumner take the reins at Elkhorn South fairly soon, and the Storm haven't been afraid to use underclassman setters before. At last month's Top 250 Expo, Wright captured our attention and played various roles in six-on-six drills. She's primarily listed as a setter, and Wright has a feel for finding the hot hand as a distributor. However, Wright also has takeover potential as an attacker and compiled some frontcourt highlights with Premier Nebraska last spring.
