Five Hoosier Pin Attackers From The Class Of '27

We take three separate positions and talk about the kids that really catch our eyes when evaluating. Some have different skill sets than others within the same position, but it's with the same theme in mind---these are athletes that everyone is watching. Here are five next-level pin attackers that might be the first to receive offers starting this summer.    Playing up a year for Boiler Juniors for years now, Caroline is a high-flying, hard-hitting right side that is the quintessential pin attacker for the next level. She has a multitude of shots at her disposal, can hit over or through blocks, and her net defense is smart and disciplined. In short, she makes this game look easy, and she makes gravity look irrelevant.     When Miss Rhamy came to our Showcase late last year, the list of solid, six-rotation outsides was her---and everyone else was a distant second. Shania has the whole package. Smarts when she needs it, a heavy-hitting arm swing, solid ball control skills, and an all-around game that is as relentless as it is competitive. She took no plays off---and continues to do so at Munciana---regardless of the score, the situation, or who she's playing. There's no doubt about her dominance in high school---Southwood has amassed 60+ wins in the last two seasons. But even in open-level club ball, Shania is the real deal, as evidenced by her multiple postseason accolades through the AAU.     Last season, Lila was a middle transitioning to playing outside. She did fine, to a point. Now a full-time outside hitter with Academy's 17-1, she's in a fast offense and has learned the quick footwork that's necessary for this particular offensive system to work. Add in the high jumping ability (ten foot club, I believe) and the pace she puts on the ball, and you can see immediately that her transition to the left pin is nearly complete. Some may argue that she fits "just this system"---my argument remains; she's now played two different positions at an elite open level. What's not to like?     As a six rotation outside, Jenna has displayed all of the tools necessary to be exactly that at the next level. Her serve receive is calm and controlled. Her floor defense is anticipatory and accurate, and doesn't reach too far outside of her frame---her footwork does the majority of the work. As far as her attack goes, she's springy on her jump and gets up in a hurry. She explodes on the ball at the point of attack, and has all of the shots in her arsenal at any time. Aside from Shania listed above, Jenna might be the most complete six-ro outside in this class.     Watching her from afar (read: videos and such), Luca is a big and physical pin attacker that already jumps over ten feet. Up close at our showcase last year, Luca immediately attacked all comers with power and skill, and showed how heavy a ball she actually hits. She's also very coachable---a couple of the adults in charge, including yours truly, gave her direction in some of the drills that she made look "easy", and she made it tougher for herself to show exactly how far she's come in the last year. Without a doubt, Luca can change a game with her physicality, her relentless attacking nature, and can make adjustments as the coach sees fit without needing extra reps or errors to do so. Athleticism, a high volleyball acuity and coachability, all in a 6-foot, ten-foot-club package? Works for me.
