The hitters were attacking at a high level in the 15U Division at last weekend's Iowa Regional Qualifier. As can be expected when that happens, the setters were delivering dimes in West Des Moines.

Sometimes the statistics don't match the talent, one way or the other. That's not the case with Waldorf, who produced 445 assists and 140 digs as a Humboldt freshman in 2024. She shined during Premier's run to title at the 2025 Iowa Regional Qualifier. With an array of powerful hitters liking the ball in different locations, Waldorf consistently put the ball on the money for them all to get a lot of clean swings. She brings more to the position, too. She defends at the net and digs well in the back. Waldorf has a good feel for the game and a high volleyball IQ, her vision costs opponents that leave holes in their defense.

Nelson is another gem in Waukee Northwest's embarrassment of volleyball riches. Most of the group will be back in 2025, making the Wolves one of the favorites to win the 5A title. Nelson operated on the freshman team last year as she began her development in one of the state's top programs. She's continued that growth this club season as evidenced by her performances at the Northern Lights and Iowa Regional Qualifiers. Nelson shares the setting duties for PowerPlex. She's ready when her turn comes up and is precise with her offerings. Nelson adjusts well to errant passes and finds ways to set up her hitters no matter what. She a good athlete that moves around the court with quickness. Nelson defends well in the back row, too.

Weiland stood out right away when I saw PowerPlex at the Northern Lights Qualifier. She did the same on second look at the Iowa Regional Qualifier. Weiland is a slick setter that does more than just put her teammates in position for kills. She's smooth in doing that, but she can also contribute at the opposite pin with an impressive lefty swing. Weiland brings desirable height and long arms to the position, which allows her to defend well at the net. She also holds up in the back row.

My first in-person scout of Murch happened at the 2025 Iowa Regional Qualifier. It resulted in my looking forward to watching her develop during the next several years. Murch packs plenty of potential at the position and plays for excellent prep and club programs. She's a well-rounded setter capable of contributing beyond her main duty of helping teammates end points, which she does well. Murch brings good height and long arms to the position. They help her defend at the net. She can dig up the opponent's attack and sees the court well, helping her find openings in the defense.

I've seen Schluckebier play more than any other 2028 in the state to date. That's because she was our daughter's prep teammate this past season. I first watched her last club season and was immediately impressed with her maturity in the sport. Schluckebier always is locked in to the match and focused on what her team needs to prevail. She can do it all at the position. The ball is put on the money and mistakes are limited. Schluckebier defends at the net and in the back row. Her swing continues to improve as evidenced by her sharing setter duties and hitting opposite pin this club season. A hard-worker that loves the sport, she has a good chance to reach her considerable ceiling.

Grubbs stood out at the 2025 Northern Lights and Iowa Regional Qualifiers. She consistently sets up her teammates for success, understanding where they like the ball. Grubbs sees the court well, which allows her to set hitters where they can exploit soft spots in the opponent's defense. While a bit undersized at the position, Grubbs compensates with a strong vertical leap and quickness. It enables her to defend all around the court. Grubbs can swing when given a chance, too.
