Indy Cup Wrap Up: Saturday Role Players I Liked At Capitol

Realistically, there are six weeks between now and Dallas, so getting high-level play is key for some of these teams to show what they can do in the "dog days" of the club schedule. She can run an offense, in tempo and accurately, to her laundry list of attackers at her disposal. Athletic and fast, Caitlyn can get to bad passes and make them better, turn good passes into in-tempo speed sets to the pins, and occasionally go over on two to score on her own. For the first addition to the class of '29, Payten is a solid, feet-first libero who has no problem standing in and taking some hard-driven shots, while also being the hit-the-floor and pursuit defender that you wish liberi would be more often. She held her own when things got tough, and never looked out of place or "young" during the time I saw her play. Her play on Saturday was reliable, consistent and in constant motion to cover a ton of ground, even though she's lithe and little. Behind the base line, she's tough, and can pick apart defenses with her accurate serving. Yes, she looks much smaller at first glance. Her distribution of accurate sets looks easy (trust me, it's not), and she can do just that regardless of where the pass ends up. Quick feet lead her calm platform, and is always reading and reacting correctly despite the block in front of her not exactly being the most disciplined. On serve receive, she should be passing half the court, as her confidence and skill should take a ton of pressure off of her fellow passers. Defensively, she knows what she can do, and stays within herself by controlling her body when playing the ball. No stress here---Jasmine plays as if she's just in practice, regardless of the score or what level the match might be. This Pitt recruit is continuing to add to her game, even in non-qualifying events such as Indy Cup. On serve receive, she's more than willing to pass half the court, while on defense, she'll sacrifice her body to keep any and every ball in play. Her serve, already deadly, is even tougher now that's she's gained strength and consistency this club season. It comes out as a heavy curve ball---with which she aced the competition multiple times in the only match I saw her play. You want your collegiate libero to take over a match and make a difference. Izzy is already doing that NOW, and should make even more of an impact at the next level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
