While 14 of the 29 girls who showed up for the frosh showcase won top performer awards almost all of the girls showed off some talent. For the class of 2029 it is still early in their career to draw a conclusion. Some hard work with a dose of perseverance will create opportunities. Below are some of the frosh who were not named top performers but still performed well.

Liberos

Of the 29 players at the frosh stock up showcase ten played the libero position. Many girls who lack height to play the front row choose the libero route, which leaves the field crowded once tryouts begin. The challenge for any libero is how do they stand out from the crowd. The answer - a lot of hustle. These liberos showed off a lot of hustle.

[player_tooltip player_id='763461' first='Ayva' last='Agno'] (Stonebridge/BAVA) - Another ds/Libero [player_tooltip player_id='781700' first='Gianna' last='Bonnett'] from BAVA earned a top performer award. Ayva also did a tremendous job playing back row, making a one handed dig and sliding on the floor to pancake a ball up. She also presented a good serve. She will play at the USAV Junior Nationals in the American Division. I hope to watch more of her there.

[player_tooltip player_id='783297' first='Aanya' last='Sinha'] (Marriots Ridge.Maryland Juniors) - Aanya gets lost playing for Maryland Juniors Black. With [player_tooltip player_id='748518' first='Harper' last='Walker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='754613' first='Charlotte' last='Aus'] sharing the libero position and the two left sides capable of playing six rotations her court time is limited. Not a lot of players on the court could beat her hustle. She threw herself on the floor a number of times to make a pancake dig. She will also play at USAV Junior National in Dallas playing in the Open Division. Definitely a player to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='778221' first='Julia' last='Star Anderson'] (Tuscarora/[program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] - Even though she lists as a DS/Libero she took a couple good outside swings. Just a little more growth from her 5'7" height could give her that versatility to play multiple positions. She will play for [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] in AAUs in Orlando in the Premier Division.

[player_tooltip player_id='783298' first='Olivia' last='Wheeler'] (Annapolis Area Christian/BAVA) - When playing defense she appears to create her platform a little early. Normally it is best to create the platform after the ball is hit, otherwise you end up swinging your arms at the ball. This creates more power than you need with your dig. Olivia showed good movement on defense anticipating where the offense will hit. She will also play in the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas for BAVA in the American Division. A lot of respect for that BAVA back row.

Setters

[player_tooltip player_id='764043' first='Mia' last='Flores']

[player_tooltip player_id='764043' first='Mia' last='Flores'] (Gainsville/[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] Anderson) - Mira still needs some work on the consistency of her location. She will play in Dallas in the USAV Junior Nationals in the Freedom Division for Paramount. That will provide another opportunity to take a look at her. Her 5'6" height could restrict her to back row setting but at her age growth is still possible.

[player_tooltip player_id='770059' first='Allece' last='Anderson'] (Atlee/RCVA National) - At 5'5" she may get restricted to setting back row in a 6/2 as well. She shows good strong hands; however, her sets tend to fly too high. Lowering the height of the sets will improve the hitters timing when they make their approach.

Left Sides

[player_tooltip player_id='763138' first='Avielle' last='Lewis']

[player_tooltip player_id='763138' first='Avielle' last='Lewis'] (CMIT North/BAVA) - At 5'10 she brings good height to the left side. When watching her I liked her swing. She also showed a good jump. Avielle will play in the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas in the American Division. She definitely deserves a second look.

[player_tooltip player_id='541319' first='Gabrielle' last='Rodrigo'] (Courtland/[program_tooltip program_id='489547' first='540' last='Volleyball Academy']) - Gabrielle showed a good swing when she hit the ball from the left side. She will play for Courtland this coming high school season, Last year Courtland got to the finals in the Class 4 Virginia state playoffs, ultimately losing to three time champion James Wood. A good player to keep an eye on to see how she progresses. [program_tooltip program_id='489547' first='540' last='Volleyball Academy'] will play in Florida in AAUs in the Elite Division.

Right Side

[player_tooltip player_id='772889' first='Marisa' last='Barreto']

[player_tooltip player_id='772889' first='Marisa' last='Barreto'] (Briar Woods/[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']/Anderson) - At 5'10" Marisa brings good height to the right side. She plays for the Paramount second team which has qualified for the USAV Junior National Freedom Division in Dallas. She will get a second look there.

Middles

[player_tooltip player_id='783299' first='London' last='Turner']

[player_tooltip player_id='783299' first='London' last='Turner'] (Severn Run/BAVA) - At 5'8" she is a smaller middle, however she timed the ball well when running the middles during warmup. Another BAVA player to look at during the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas in the American Division.

[player_tooltip player_id='783302' first='Sophie' last='Lorgea'] (Atholton/Maryland juniors 13) - At 6'2" she brings some height to the court. She also brings a lot of rawness to the game. The good news is she still has lots of time to develop. This past club season she played for the Maryland Jrs 13 team. This weekend she plays in Orlando in the 13 Aspire Division at the AAU championships.

[player_tooltip player_id='763151' first='Sydney' last='Lewis'] (Riverside/[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']) - Another player at 6'0" who brings good height to the floor. From a hitting standpoint her arm swing needs a tad more work to put more power on the ball. At the net however she was a blocking machine getting her hands high above the net. She will attend Riverside this year, the defending Virginia state champion in Class 5. Her rawness on the offensive side might keep her off the varsity her frosh season. She also will play for the Paramount first team in the National Division in the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas. Another player worth a second look.

[player_tooltip player_id='783304' first='Donnie' last='Thompson'] (St. Vincent Pallotti/Maryland Jrs) - Another player with just a bit of rawness in her game but bringing the attributes to succeed. At 5'11" she carries the height to play the middle. While she plays for Maryland Juniors it is not with their top team. At this age hard work and perseverance can bring rapid improvement. In a couple years it would not surprise me to see her playing at a high level.

We did not get an opportunity to get a fair look at two players, DS/Liberos [player_tooltip player_id='770973' first='Yasmeen' last='Haidari-Smith'] and [player_tooltip player_id='776839' first='Natalie' last='McCauley'], to make an assessment. Both will be placed on the watch list for a future look. Yasmeen plans to attend Madison, normally a powerhouse in volleyball. Natalie plans to attend Mountain View, a team whose roster looks good for a playoff run. If either makes the varsity they will get a second look during the high school season.
