Normally, I limit our top performer awards to one per player. I try my best to give more players an opportunity to win the award. I have relaxed that a little for those who win frosh top performer awards. No reason to prevent them from winning a more prestigious award.
Last year Sydney won a frosh top performer award. At that time her offensive game was a little rough but she put up a good block with her length. At this event her offensive game flashed better with improved timing with the quick tempo sets. In actual game situations this can prove more difficult depending on how well the transition.
Sydney has grown an inch since that Frosh showcase. While she made the varsity for Riverside her playing time was restricted. She brought an impressive .366 hitting percentage to the court in the 19 sets she played.
Sydney will suit up for Paramount 15 first team. Her approach jump records at 9’9″. Plenty to like about Sydney’s game.

along with a number of other frosh who shined at the event. While her offensive game is still a work in progress, she brings the ability to put up a good block at the net with her long reach.
Riverside lost a very good middle to graduation. An opening exists for her to take. At 6’0″ with further growth in her future Sydney brings the height for the position.

Last year Riverside won the Class 5 State championship. One of their top middles Brianna Holladay graduated. That should open up a spot for the 6’0′

leading the offense all Sydney has to do is play her game.
That game includes becoming a force at the net when blocking. Her hitting still needs some improvement especially with her arm swing to create more force on her hits. The challenge with frosh lies with limiting their errors while playing against the more experienced high school juniors and seniors. Her game will improve as she gains more experience. With time she will play a solid middle
Expect her to fill a role plugging up the middle for Riverside to win a second straight Class 5 state championship.
