What a wave it was.

Nebraska exceeded expectations in Orlando for Wave 3 of AAU Nationals. We ended last week with a look at all the teams carrying the Great Plains banner, and we saw some serious potential from this group. Lo and behold, the Cornhusker State loomed large on Championship Tuesday with several squads in Gold contention.

Now, we can step back and take stock of a busy four days of postseason play--all while keeping track of the happenings in Wave 4!

Before we get into some player features, here's a broad look at the big winners.

Podium Placers

Reaching the podium of AAU Nationals is an extraordinary accomplishment, and Nebraska brought a pair of contenders to the big stage.

[program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] 17 Navy came within one match--and one set--of repeating last year's AAU title. Once again, this group looked right at home in Orlando and roared to the title match with a 13-match winning streak. 17 Navy didn't drop a set until Tuesday's Gold quarterfinals.

The team's clutch factor was evident with three-set wins over SPVB 17 Red and Illini Elite. Only SPVB 17 Marshall managed to best [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] in a tiebreaker title bout. Despite the setback, 17 Navy has written another unforgettable chapter in its postseason lore. More on this group throughout the week.

16 Open offered another dose of drama with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Synergy riding its perfect record to the quarterfinals. A thrilling 30-28 Set 1 win anchored Synergy's Tuesday win over OTVA. [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] came up short against familiar rival Northern Lights, but a third-place finish capped a "redemption tour" for this stacked team. Expect a few future podiums for Synergy.

Nebraska Elite

Wave 3 was a club-wide triumph for Nebraska Elite.

Every Nebraska Elite entry in Wave 3 finished AAU Nationals with a winning record. We were particularly drawn to Nebraska Elite 16 Apex and Nebraska Elite 16 Surge, both of which reached the Gold bracket in their respective divisions. 16 Apex won its Tuesday opener to reach the quarterfinals, and 16 Surge climbed to the 16 Aspire Gold group after a 10-0 start.

Nebraska Elite 17 Phoenix slugged through the 17 Premier division and ended its Orlando stay on a three-match winning streak. We also have to give a nod to Nebraska Elite 17 Motion, which started its 17 Spirit journey with a 5-0 mark.

That's how to end the season on a high note.

The 16s

2027s are ready to be the next upperclassman leaders on Nebraska's prep stage.

In addition to all the other 16s teams mentioned above, we had several other worthy Great Plains contenders in this age group. Of course, we have to start with the familiar duo of Club Legacy 16 Alpha and 16 Bravo.

16 Alpha posted a top-five finish in the 16 Club division, polishing off a wildly successful 2025 campaign with plenty of tournament hardware. 16 Bravo followed suit with a 9-4 overall record in the 16 Aspire division.

Nebraska Juniors also had some of its best output on the 16U side. Nebraska Juniors 16 Red advanced to Round 3 of 16 Select's pool play and won four of its first five contests. Meanwhile, Nebraska Juniors 16 Black aimed high in the 16 Premier division and piled up eight consecutive victories after a grueling opening round.

The Class of 2027 was already gaining momentum this summer, but stocks are even higher after these performances.
