Once again, this was a banner weekend for Premier Nebraska's 16s squads.

We've just discussed Premier Nebraska 16 Black's long-awaited breakthrough in the 16 USA division, but the fun doesn't have to stop there. Premier Nebraska brought its full armada of 16s teams to Kansas City, including a previously qualified 16 Gold squad in the 16 Open division. With 16 Black rising to bid status at Show Me, it's only fair that Premier Nebraska 16 Red completed the trinity in the 16 Liberty race.

Last weekend's qualifier was a high-stakes venue for 16 Red. The team had enjoyed plenty of prior success on the regional circuit, but Show Me represented a big step up to the national stage. 16 Red did not shy away from the challenge.

Premier Nebraska's 16s GJNC contingent expands to three with 16 Red's runner-up finish.

16 Red didn't take long to prove its worthiness to compete at a USAV qualifier.

Last weekend's 16 Liberty journey began with a 3-0 mark in the opening round. Premier Nebraska rolled to a pair of sweeps and prevailed in a three-set battle to cap the evening. On to the next one.

Day 2 offered more of the same. Even as stiffer competition arose in Bartle Hall, 16 Red kept its perfect pool streak alive with another trio of wins. But, of course, we knew Monday's bracket would provide the ultimate pressure test.

Kansas City had three 16 Liberty bids for the taking, and only a small handful of teams in the division were previously qualified. This left some Monday business for 16 Red to address.

The work started with a straight-set win over Premier EDGE in a rematch of Day 1's three-set thriller. 16 Red followed it up with a dominant sweep over Northern Lights, putting the team one step closer to a Liberty berth.

A semifinal showdown with Rockwood Thunder was next on the docket. 16 Red could now secure a bid with one win in the next two matches. Why not get it out of the way early?

Premier Nebraska rallied to take down Rockwood Thunder, securing a spot in the division's championship match. No third-place struggle was necessary.

16 Red was ready for its big moment at Show Me.

Expanding Our Reach

This event taught us a lot about Nebraska's Class of 2028--and even more about the exceptional crew representing 16 Red.

Most of the triumphant Great Plains teams at Show Me have introduced some new faces into the mix, and 16 Red is no exception. [player_tooltip player_id='730564' first='Reese' last='Timmerman'] has been a game-changing addition to the back row, channeling her high-level experience with Norfolk Catholic on the prep side. We've seen Timmerman spar with Open-level competition as a club athlete, so she was already battle-tested for the KC trip.

[player_tooltip player_id='770228' first='Trinity' last='Rocha'] is another acquisition who has transformed the starting rotation. Her physicality and lateral quickness are show-stoppers at the middle blocker spot. Rocha's connections with her setters have solidified with time, allowing 16 Red to expand its in-system offense.

That offense also likes to run through [player_tooltip player_id='826902' first='Emery' last='Taylor'], a 2028 pin hitter who has represented various Premier Nebraska groups over the years. We've seen her ascend the age ladder to help other squads, and the Auburn standout hasn't skipped a beat with 16 Red. She can get the job done on either pin and made big strides as an opposite in Kansas City.

The pin positions featured a deep, talented cast of terminators. [player_tooltip player_id='576522' first='Carley' last='Jorczak']'s explosive approach yielded numerous crosscourt winners on the left side. 16 Red has also looked to [player_tooltip player_id='575221' first='Brinley' last='Walter'] to take the lead in out-of-system situations whenever she's in the frontcourt. We can also expand our multi-pin theme with Emary Cooper's emergence on both sides of the setter. Lineup options are endless.

It also helps to have a tremendous group of ball control assets running the show. Timmerman is just the beginning of 16 Red's platoon on the end line. [player_tooltip player_id='774712' first='Payton' last='Farley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='774641' first='Katelyn' last='Dyrstad'] have exhibited their willingness to tackle any DS role in the starting rotation. All three have seen ample opportunities in the contrasting jersey and remain vital contributors in the passing pattern. Quality first contacts led to consistent results in Kansas City.

Krejci

This precision also helped [player_tooltip player_id='575236' first='Maci' last='Jensen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='575240' first='Quinn' last='Krejci'] operate in tandem to guide an efficient two-setter offense. Jensen's physicality also brings an additional option at the opposite position. Krejci distinguished herself as an outstanding floor defender who grew increasingly comfortable as the Show Me grind progressed.

And, when in doubt, keep feeding the middles. Rocha is joined by [player_tooltip player_id='774714' first='Jenna' last='Walters'], a rangy athlete who thrives off of two feet in front of the setter. She dished out indefensible angles in KC and was a sure bet in one-on-one situations. 16 Red harnessed every bit of the firepower.

They'll look for a little more in Indianapolis this summer.
