Players College Coaches Should Watch

The Girls Junior National Championships in Dallas is one of the biggest stages in club volleyball, and the 15 Open Division brought no shortage of pressure or talent. But beyond standout plays and final scores, I was focused on something deeper, growth.   Throughout the season, I've tracked the development of athletes who didn't just rise to the occasion this weekend, they've been steadily leveling up all year.   These five players have made impressive strides across the board, sharpening their skills, building confidence, and increasing their impact on the game. Whether it's quicker footwork, improved consistency, smarter reads, or stronger leadership, each is showing the kind of upward trajectory that college coaches need to have on their radar. What stands out most is her resilience, when her swings are denied by a block, she responds immediately, visibly fired up and yelling “Again” to her setter to let her know she is ready. A Division I coach watching courtside said after she sucessful killed a hard hitting pipe, “She's absolutely ridiculous.” Her fierce mentality signals a growth mindset that coaches covet: she isn't defined by a single swing or game, but by how she plays the game and pushes forward.   Through the season I've watched her sharpen timing, refine her approach footwork, and channel intensity into execution. Her front-row snap is precise and fast, and she attacks with force, opting for tips only when they are necessary rather than as a fallback.   Beyond power, her volleyball IQ has matured; she's reading blocks quicker, choosing shots earlier, and balancing aggression with efficiency. That steady refinement shows she's not peak yet. Offensively she does not merely swing hard, she actively adjusts arm speed and targets smart angles from the outside, bending the block and keeping defenses off balance.   What sets her apart is her volleyball IQ. She processes blockers' positioning in real time and adapts her swing mid-play based on what she sees. Watching her performance improve steadily from match to match confirms she has more to give. That upward trend, evident in cleaner angles, more assertive swings, and tactical shot selection signals that she's far from her ceiling. College coaches recognize that growth mindset. Her high, fluid swing delivers a repeatable attack with reliable contact and timing, even in high-pressure moments.   What really sets Sasha apart is her growing confidence. She swings with conviction and moves with purpose, showing that her progress isn't just physical but mental as well. That evolution in skill and belief makes her more than a polished hitter; she's a player still on her upward arc.   College coaches prize athletes who haven't peaked yet, those who continue to refine their technique, deepen their volleyball IQ, and embrace each challenge as a growth opportunity.
