Presenting The Prep Dig Class of 2027 National Rankings
The inaugural Prep Dig Class of 2027 National Rankings are LIVE!
For the past three years at Prep Dig, we have released national rankings of the sophomore class prior to June 15 where athletes can officially begin their recruiting process with college coaches.
How Do These Rankings Get Made?
The rankings follow a similar process as our state rankings, however they are a little more drawn out with the process. The national rankings are only updated once per year. For our initial national rankings, we start building the class from a year out. Players are added to the list from our Prep Dig database. We take a look at how they are ranked within their state, but we also factor in multiple lists and opinions.
We take a look at athletes who have made the lists from JVA, USAV, NTDP, Youth National teams, and more. We are also reaching out individually to our Prep Dig scouts as well as club coaches across the country. We do not consult current college coaches for our rankings.
We value who is making the biggest impact at the highest level of play.
Breaking The Rankings Down
This is splitting hairs. This also comes down to a little bit of math.
All of these players are among the best in their state, they are going to be recruited at the next level, and some are going to be ones who could be playing at the Olympic level years down the road. There are also athletes who are not in the national rankings who are still going to have an impact at the next level. Everyone is not only good, they are great. June 15 will be an exciting day for these athletes. However, this is a process. There are athletes on our Class of 2026 National Rankings who are still finishing up their recruiting process.
When we reach out to others in regards to where an athlete falls. Many times we hear, “She is a top ten, top twenty, etc”. We do value the feedback, however mathematically we just can’t have twenty athletes in our top ten.
Rankings Are A Tool
When players are in our rankings and database they are able to control their information by claiming their player profile. This allows the athlete to edit their information if there is a change such as a position, club, or eventually their commitment. They are also able to add highlight videos and academic information that can be seen by subscribed coaches.
What we have done at Prep Dig is track recruiting class rankings as well as nationally ranked players who are having an impact at the next level.
Here is an article we published on the Class of 2023 National Rankings and how their freshman year of college was. Does a high ranking equate to a starting spot? Postseason honors? How many of these athletes transfer?
A ranking is just a ranking, it does not define the athlete or their future success. We look forward to seeing the commitments come in this summer and wish the best of luck on the recruiting path to the Class of 2027!
