Who Made Big First Impressions at #PDMidwestLive? (Pt. 2)

Alexander stood out among a large group of pin hitters at Midwest Live and exhibited her full range during positional drills. The Van Meter underclassman wielded her high contact point in the frontcourt and remained an asset as a back-row defender. Kelley brings all the traits that have made [program_tooltip program_id='431948' first='Iowa' last='Rockets'] successful in the always-competitive Midwest club scene. She's a crafty attacker who has harnessed her experience as a pin hitter and a middle blocker. Quick tempos are no problem for Kelley, who can get on top of the ball quickly and read which gaps and seams are available. Amman joined us from the Quad Cities area and was willing to play on either pin during scrimmage action. This reflects her dynamic prep journey, as Amman has been a multi-dimensional outside attacker around the club circuit. While Amman lights it up in the frontcourt, Livengood is the unsung hero along the end line. She makes difficult plays look routine and has impressive side-to-side control with her platform. Livengood was eager to take first contacts during scrimmages after dishing out several quality reps during individual work. It's a game-changing quality to have from your libero, especially when mix-and-match lineups try to communicate during showcase scrimmages. McDonald is accustomed to piloting Iowa United 151 Elite's stout backcourt and has played a full gauntlet of Open-level volleyball this season. Stien has already announced her presence on the high school stage as a do-everything athlete for Center Point-Urbana. The star freshman put up triple-digit kills and also added over 250 assists as a backcourt setter. This hybrid setter-opposite role is a familiar trend among Iowa's best athletes, and Stien is an ideal fit for this six-rotation influence. These summer showcases are usually are first glimpse at an incoming freshman group, and Buhman seems poised to be a leader among her peers. The Sumner-Fredericksburg freshman-to-be brings exceptional physicality to the setter spot and pairs that with a strong feel for tempo and location. Buhman commanded offenses well during team scrimmages, even as she was developing connections with unfamiliar faces on her side of the net.
