High school season is back! I always have considered the Prep Dig Sizzle the unofficial start to the high school season where Prep Dig will host 48 varsity teams and 32 JV teams at the Community First Champion Center in Appleton. Day one teams will be in pools of four where we map it out to not face anyone within their conference and of comparable competition level. Day two, teams will compete in bracket play. Spectators are welcome, admission is $5 per day. Here are some teams to take note of heading into the Prep Dig Sizzle.

Bay Port

Bay Port is coming off a state tournament appearance, their first in school history while also collecting an FRCC title. They had a deep senior class and will miss the presence of Chloe Parker who will be starting her career at Bradley this fall, but they will look to the leadership and dynamic ability of setter [player_tooltip player_id='509331' first='Meghan' last='Bruss']. Bruss is a silky smooth player who has a mature IQ, knows how to find a favorable matchup for her attackers, and knows how to score points herself from the service line and can be offensive in the front row. Another athlete to know out of the middle blocker position is [player_tooltip player_id='376306' first='Taylor' last='Neuenschwander'] who will make her presence known as a blocker, but can find ways to score points as well.

Mosinee

Mosinee has always brought powerful teams to the Prep Dig Sizzle and this year will be no different. In 2024, they finished 28-10 and 11-1 in the Great Northern Conference. They will return top attacker [player_tooltip player_id='435884' first='Bridget' last='Frye'] who had nearly 400 kills last season. As a team they return four of their top five point scorers and there is an incoming freshman to have on the radar in [player_tooltip player_id='545529' first='Pacyn' last='Stoffel'] who had a big club season for [program_tooltip program_id='428591' first='FC' last='Elite'] 14 Navy. They will be favorites in their conference once again and will be looking to make some post season noise.

Oostburg

Oostburg won a D3 state title in girls basketball and has plenty of athletes who can do some damage on the volleyball court as well. In 2024, they finished 20-11 and will return plenty of ball control and point scorers. Their top two setters are back in [player_tooltip player_id='503809' first='Brianna' last='Dana'] and Kennedy Kneser. When it comes to putting the ball away and points on the board [player_tooltip player_id='523027' first='Macy' last='Bruggink'], [player_tooltip player_id='504455' first='Brooklyn' last='Hoffman'], and Kelsey Ketterhagen who all had over 100 kills last season. Hoffman was the team leader in blocks with 46 total on the season.

Oshkosh West

Oshkosh West will be bringing two teams to the Prep Dig Sizzle where they have a loaded roster of athletes with plenty of experience. They are coming off of a regional championship in 2024. The headliner of this group is [player_tooltip player_id='277433' first='Sydnee' last='Nelson'], a Belmont commit. The outside hitter has won two state titles in the 100 m hurdles and is coming off a season where she had nearly 400 kills, good for 4.0 kill/set. They also return one of the top liberos in the area in [player_tooltip player_id='487007' first='Elaina' last='Butz'] who had nearly 400 digs in 2024. The FVA is always one of the toughest conferences in the state and West will be competing for that top spot.

Waukesha West

Waukesha West will be making the trip North to Appleton where they have a lot of dynamite in their lineup. They have two incoming seniors who will be able to put points on the board in [player_tooltip player_id='209368' first='Mia' last='Jannazzo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='277428' first='Ireland' last='Zyzo']. These two are coming off big seasons at [program_tooltip program_id='428672' first='Milwaukee' last='Sting']. Jannazzo will be heading to Radford, a Division 1 school in Radford, Virginia. They will also have two incoming juniors who are coming off a big blocking season in [player_tooltip player_id='509346' first='Paige' last='Allen'] and Julia Wiese who had nearly 100 combined blocks in 2024.

Waunakee

Waunakee has established themselves as a premier program out of the Madison area where they are always a threat to make it to the Resch come November. Last season they had plenty of new faces and played a grueling schedule in some of the state's top tournaments. This year they return plenty of experience led by Notre Dame commit [player_tooltip player_id='345274' first='Lauren' last='Sprague'] and rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='388460' first='Kaitlin' last='Van Wie']. They won the Badger-Large and after being upset in the postseason last year, they will be very hungry in 2025. They will return their top three point scorers and setter [player_tooltip player_id='435879' first='Amy' last='Denkert'].

Sheboygan Falls

Sheboygan Falls is a team on the rise after putting together some strong seasons with a youthful roster. Now that youth has grown up with some experience and will come into 2025 with some big expectations. Kenley [player_tooltip player_id='768015' first='Mortenson' last=''] who averaged nearly three kills per set and another attacker who is a solid all around player is [player_tooltip player_id='220640' first='Natalie' last='Nickolai'] who had nearly 200 kills and 350 digs. A setter to know for for the Falcons will be [player_tooltip player_id='510429' first='Abigail' last='Beaumont'] who had a successful club season for [program_tooltip program_id='428591' first='FC' last='Elite'] 16 Navy.

Hudson

Hudson is back! They are a perennial power when it comes to the Prep Dig Sizzle and in 2024 they were able to finish their season at the state tournament with a 36-3 record, champions of the Big Rivers Conference. They lost a lot of firepower to graduation, but one returner who will be a sophomore is [player_tooltip player_id='783410' first='Libby' last='Bartz'] who averaged 2.0 kills per set her freshman year.

Freedom

Freedom is another team who is coming off a big season in 2024 where they won their first conference title. Champions of the Northeast Conference, they return one of the top setters in the Class of 2026 in [player_tooltip player_id='485131' first='Lilliani' last='Big Eagle'] who had 834 assists last season. She has a solid all around skill set where she can find the open attacker and can be offensive when the opportunity presents itself. Another all around player who had an impact on the offensive and defensive side is incoming sophomore Saylor Meulmans who had nearly 200 kills and just over 200 digs as a freshman.

Sheboygan Christian

Sheboygan Christian is returning as a D5 state tournament team and they will be coming in ready for the 2025 season with plenty of experience back. They have EVERYBODY back. The return 1st Team All State pick [player_tooltip player_id='726408' first='Sofia' last='Rodriguez'] who had nearly 500 digs on the season. They return five attackers who had over 100 kills on the season with three of them having at least 220 led by Madelyn Van dend with 342 kills. The commander of the offense is returning All State setter in [player_tooltip player_id='249670' first='Lydia' last='Neeb']. She has the length, athleticism, and IQ to run the show at its finest. This will be a fun team to see take on some bigger schools at the Sizzle.
