We are concluding the month of July with several articles highlighting players from specific player groups and classes who turned in outstanding 2025 club seasons. These players will be rolling into the high school volleyball season with most college camps in the rearview mirror. The state of Washington won't have practices until August 25th, giving athletes a much-needed break from the grind. (if they want it!) Here are five setters from the class of 2027 that stood out.

Diaz has excellent length at the setter position. The Cashmere prospect is effective as a blocker and isn't afraid to call her own number and score when the defense is sleeping. Diaz had a terrific connection with talented rightside [player_tooltip player_id='461185' first='Macie' last='Smart'] during the club season. She was fearless, cutting loose long-distance back sets that Smart would hammer down for kills.

DaKine put together a magical run of a season at the 16's level, and Smith was one of two setters running the offense in their 6-2 system. Smith was all over the floor defensively, covering her hitters and saving points by popping up passes that should have hit the floor. She is terrific at disguising sets to her RS and middles; her calm, consistent setup earned "one-ups" and empty nets. Smith can play the front row, and can score as RS or straight from a front row setter spot.

Erickson and her Excel NW squad were competitive, energetic, and a difficult team to put away this season. The La Center 2027 prospect has soft hands and locates her sets in a terrific window for her hitters. Erickson keeps a consistent footwork pattern that lets her decrease her misses. She has the height and athleticism to handle tough passes that are tight to the net.

Phan can swing from both pins as well as set, a testament to her good overall skills and athleticism. She moves well and has the body control to slow herself down after a long run and put a hittable ball up for her attacker. She stays engaged defensively and can hurt teams with a no-spin jump float that dances across the net to give passers problems.

The Eastside Catholic prospect had to keep her hands and strong left arm warmed up during the club season for BRVBA. When she was not setting, DeLay took plenty of swings from the right side and helped power the team's offensive attack. She has good size at setter and right side, and has the strength to send the ball pin to pin to find her attackers.
