I don't often scout junior varsity matches, but when I commit to driving over 300 miles to see two elite programs like Beloit and Ellinwood, I figured why not arrive at the gym an hour early?

Ellinwood and Beloit each have state championship-caliber teams at the varsity level, but there are a handful of freshmen who will be varsity players in the future, and could probably play varsity ball now at other schools.

Here is a look at eight prospects in the Kansas Class of 2029.

[player_tooltip player_id='738095' first='Mallory' last='Batchman'], 5'5”, S/OH, Ellinwood, ‘29

Batchman is an athlete I saw compete during club ball, and who has an older sister playing on the varsity squad. She was the primary setter for the JV squad and recorded 12 assists, four digs, three kills, and two aces. She is ranked No. 53 overall by Prep Dig Kansas.

[player_tooltip player_id='809364' first='Blayre' last='Moore'], 5'6”, OH, Ellinwood, ‘29

Moore is currently ranked No. 74 overall in the Kansas Class of 2029. I saw her play club ball this past season. She was all over the court for the Eagles, recording five kills, seven digs, 10 serve receptions, and three aces.

[player_tooltip player_id='808225' first='Avery' last='Panning'], 5'7”, MB/OH, Ellinwood, ‘29

Panning is ranked No. 63 overall in the Kansas Class of 2029. She has a big reach and can elevate. She recorded two kills, four digs, and four serve receptions. She has a nice line drive serve with a late dive.

[player_tooltip player_id='883636' first='Reagan' last='Stickney'], 5'8”, OH, Ellinwood, ‘29

Reagan is one of three Stickney's on the Ellinwood roster. I was impressed with her approach. She registered six kills, three digs, and one block. She has a solid, hard serve.

[player_tooltip player_id='883639' first='Elliott' last='Weston'], 5'6”, S, Beloit, '29

Weston is a quick setter who collected 10 assists, six serve receptions, and two digs for the Trojans. She is currently an unranked prospect, but will be added to the Class of 2029 rankings in October.

[player_tooltip player_id='800300' first='Avery' last='Loomis'] 5'5”, DS/L, Beloit, ‘29

Loomis is a spunky libero with a hard serve. She finished with 18 digs and eight serve receptions for the Trojans. She saw playing time during the varsity game, in which she entered to serve. She is currently unranked.

[player_tooltip player_id='883638' first='Gracin' last='Harris'], 6'0”, MB, Beloit, '29

Harris is a six-foot prospect who could evolve into a net monster. She recorded four kills and one dig in the junior varsity match.

[player_tooltip player_id='883637' first='Mackenzy' last='Goodaker'], 5'7”, MB/OH, Beloit '29

Goodaker is a physical athlete who also wrestles and competes in track and field. Her presence at the net caught my eye, but I unfortunately did not track her stats from the get-go.
