<p>Blue Valley earned the sweep in the opening match to end my perfect prediction streak early in the day. A 25-20, 28-26 to start the year for the Tigers. No stats were available for Blue Valley. <p>We finally got one right with the third match, as Olathe West defeated the Titans in straight sets. <p>In a rivalry contest, St. Teresa's got the best of Miege, winning in a competitive fight in straight sets, -23, -22. </p>

<p>Blue Valley West said, "Please don't disrespect us again", and swept Blue Valley Southwest in their highly anticipated matchup. 25-23, 25-20 in a competitive duel. Peyton and [player_tooltip player_id='807962' first='Jensen' last='Kubik'] both had 6 kills apiece for the winners in a match where attackers were shaking off the summer rust. Blue Valley West attacked at a zero clip, while Southwest wasn't much better at .018. Southwest was led by [player_tooltip player_id='222097' first='Taylor' last='Stanley'] with 6 kills. </p>

<p><strong>(1) Mill Valley vs. (4) St. Thomas Aquinas</strong></p>

<p>St. Thomas Aquinas won the battle of defending state champions in three sets. The preseason number one-ranked team looked the part in set one, dominating the set 25-15. The Saints didn't fold, winning set two 25-21 before escaping with the entertaining 27-25 set three. No stats were available at post time. </p>
