scouted a Centennial League match-up between the Manhattan Indians and the Emporia Spartans.

Emporia had an early lead in both sets, but fell to Manhattan by a total of eight points in the two-set loss.

Here is a look at four athletes who posted solid numbers for Emporia. With the loss, the Spartans now own a record of 11-8 overall.

[player_tooltip player_id='783588' first='Kaylee' last='DeWitt'], 5'8”, S/RS, Emporia, '27

DeWitt plays with ice in her veins.. She does not get rattled, and even the sound of nails on a chalkboard does not affect her. She was all over the court against Manhattan and made multiple big-time defensive plays. She recorded 12 assists, four kills, nine digs, one block, and one ace in the loss. She is ranked No. 200 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She has a knack for knowing when to dump a ball, and she is a consistent setter.

[player_tooltip player_id='808141' first='Jade' last='Xu'], 6'1”, OH, Emporia, '26

Xu is ranked No. 26 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026 and has verbally committed to playing for the Emporia State Hornets. She played some solid defense in the game, but had an off-hitting night. She registered four kills, 13 serve receptions, and eight digs. It was the best defensive game I have seen from her over the past three years of scouting her.

[player_tooltip player_id='699369' first='Molly' last='Williams'], 5'4”, DS/L, Emporia, '26

Williams is ranked No. 112 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. She finished with five digs and eight serve receptions in the game. She moves well and is willing to stick her nose in front of a ball to make the tough play.

[player_tooltip player_id='809520' first='Aubree' last='Hess'], 6'2”, MB, Emporia, '27

Hess has a high ceiling, and this is a key season for her. She finished the match with two kills, three digs, two serve receptions, and one block. She played better defense than I expected and is not a liability on the back row. This will be the last time I see her play this season, but I hope I get to catch her play club ball. A big junior season and solid club season will get more eyes on her.
