A small-town gym packed wall to wall with fans, the floor vibrating with every serve and swing — that's the stage the Grafton Spoilers walked onto as they faced the Thompson Tommies. And when the final whistle blew, Grafton had walked out with a sweep that teams took notice around the state.   For anyone who follows North Dakota volleyball, Thompson's name carries weight. The Tommies aren't just a team — they're a program built on tradition, multiple state titles, and guided by a nationally recognized coach. Already undefeated and ranked #1 in the state, they entered the matchup looking every bit the part of a state title contender.   Grafton knew the challenge: step into one of the toughest environments in the state and try to slow a team built on precision, tempo, and relentless pressure. Instead of shrinking from the moment, the Spoilers embraced it, using balance, grit, and firepower to counter Thompson's attack.   From the opening whistle, the gym buzzed with intensity. Thompson displayed why they're perennial contenders — fast-tempo offense fueled by in-system passing, middles who command attention, and a defense anchored by libero Kya Hurst, who racked up more than 30 digs with textbook technique. Alongside her, [player_tooltip player_id='829501' first='Andie' last='Schwab'] contributed 25+ digs, constantly adjusting to off-speed shots and hard-driven balls. Together, they formed the backbone of Thompson's defensive system, allowing the setter to keep the offense firing.   But Grafton countered with smart offensive execution. Her lateral movement, disciplined hands, and ability to anticipate plays allowed her to control both the block and transition attack. Schumacher's precision with quicks, high volleyball IQ, and court presence make her a true impact middle and a standout college prospect.   [player_tooltip player_id='725025' first='Jocelyn' last='DeGeldere'] (2026, Outside Hitter): DeGeldere led the Spoilers with 13 kills, showing advanced ability to read opponents and exploit defensive gaps. She adjusts placement mid-swing, anticipates blocks, and consistently finds seams under pressure. Her sharp shot selection and offensive problem-solving make her a weapon recruiters will want to track closely. Emme LeClerc (2026, Libero): Leclerc anchored the back row with 16 digs, displaying precise platform angles and fast first-step reactions. Her serve-receive consistency and court awareness make her a stabilizing force and a polished libero that college coaches value. Sweeping the undefeated, top-ranked Tommies 25–22, 25–22, 29–27, the Spoilers announced they belong in the state tournament conversation. Every hitter, setter, and back-row defender contributed, showcasing depth, versatility, and grit that will catch the eyes of college recruiters.   Even in defeat, Thompson remains a program to watch.
