A Titan outfit replacing heavy losses to graduation showed signs of growth in a 2-3 performance that saw it lose, 2-1, against Bettendorf and Regina.

Here is a collection of Lewis Central student-athletes that stood out during the Little Hawk event:

I first scouted Young in person during the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2024 season, her freshman campaign. She performed like a veteran. When I watched her again at the same tournament on Sept. 6, Young had taken her game up to another level. She'd come up with a team-best 110 digs through the team's first 11 matches. Young faced plenty of strong attacks at City High and consistently answered the challenge. She moves well laterally with sharp reflexes. Young maximizes her natural gifts by understanding the game and what opponents are trying to do on the attack. She's sound in serve-receive, getting a good read on the ball and acting quickly. With almost three years of high school ball and plenty of club remaining, Young is a prospect of considerable note.

Wohlers worked into the Titan lineup as the second setter when I scouted the team at last season's Iowa City High tournament. When Lewis Central returned to that event in early September of 2025, the senior had moved into the top spot. Wohlers brought a take-charge approach to the position, vocally leading her team. She'd taken a step forward with her setting, as evidence by her 124 assists through 11 matches, and showed she was a factor at the opposite pin and in defending when she rotated off of setter. Wohlers was third on the squad in digs and fourth in kills. With height and long arms being assets, Wohlers is a prospect that should be receiving more attention from colleges for volleyball even if basketball ends up being her ultimate path.

Cooper's play caught my attention at the Iowa City High tournament in 2024, the beginning of her freshman season. That's usually a good sign of things to come. That was the case when I saw her again at City High for the 2025 event in early September. After playing more right side as a ninth-grader, Cooper flashed high upside hitting from the outside in this one, while also improving on the right side. She defends well in both spots. Cooper is increasing the power in her attack as she adds strength and consistency to her swing. She has a good feel for the game and sees the court well. That helps Cooper get the most out of her talents. She should be soundly on the recruiting radar at this point.

The Florida transfer has been a nice addition to the 2025 Titan squad seeking production following notable graduation losses. Davis is listed at 5-10 on the Lewis Central roster, but played much bigger than that when I scouted her at the Iowa City High tournament in early September. She has long arms and can really jump. Generating a lot of power in her swing and getting a good read on the defense thanks to hang time, Davis is dangerous on the attack. She sees the block well and has time to adjust her kill attempts accordingly. The long limbs and athleticism also aid Davis in defending at the net. Her 25.0 blocks through the team's first 11 matches were more than double the next in line, and her 79 kills ranked second among Titans.

McSorley stood out when I scouted Lewis Central at the Iowa City High tournament in early September. Operating in the two-setter system, McSorley shared the team-lead in assists with 124 through 11 matches. She also ranked second on the squad with 63 digs, and her 6.0 blocks were fourth among Titans. McSorley has good height and long arms that help her at the position. She mixes up her offerings and consistently puts the ball where her attackers can make plays. McSorley sees the court well and picks her spots to exploit holes in the defense. She holds up well in serve-receive and in defending in the back row.

Nelson got her feet wet on the varsity as a sophomore in 2024. It prepared her for a larger role this season, as she showed during the Iowa City High tournament in early September. Nelson slotted in as the team's second outside hitter and made sure the Titan attack was aggressive through six rotations. Lacking the prototypical height of a pin, Nelson succeeds with explosiveness off of the court, a sound vertical leap, hang time and a consistent operation through the swing. She ranked third on the team with 50 kills through 11 matches and she chipped in 15 digs. It will interesting to see where Nelson can take her game from here because she has a strong foundation on which to build.
