Texas HS: Foster sweep St. John's as district opener approaches

<p>The high school volleyball season is underway in the state of Texas, and most districts have already started their internal battles for spots in the playoffs, meaning that every match matters now.</p>   <p>We, at Prep Dig Texas, are excited to cover another season of high school volleyball in our state and will attend multiple matches every week in the Houston area, producing articles, photos and social media posts that highlight the impressive performances and accomplishments from our players.</p>   <p>On Tuesday, September 16, we caught a rare non-district match, which had the Foster Falcons hosting the St. John's Mavericks in Richmond.</p>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li><strong><a href="https://prepdig.com/2025/09/texas-hs-foster-vs-st-johns-photos/">Photos: Foster vs. St. John's</a></strong></li> </ul>   <p>Playing at home, the Falcons dominated from start to finish and secured a solid 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) victory.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/1968103918023610430/ </div></figure>   <p>With the victory, Foster improved their season record to 17-6. They have one final match before the start of district play, at home against Klein Oak, on Friday. St. John's are now at 18-12 for the season and will begin district play on September 30, at home, against Houston Christian.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Performers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">The senior outside hitter had an excellent performance against St. John's, leading the Falcons in some key areas of the game. Lechler diversified extremely well with her offense and had a solid success rate from the left and the middle back positions, converting 18 of her 34 swings into points. She made great use of her high contact point and displayed tremendous firepower, getting some impressive bounces. The outside hitter also stood out on the backcourt, leading her team in both digs (20) and aces (3).</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/1968093327972241719/ </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Playing on the right, the sophomore was another standout in Foster's victory, appearing well on both sides of the ball. She was the team's secondary scoring option, and offered great contributions with 14 kills and no offensive errors. Barnes used her length extremely well and was excellent with her shot selection, scoring in difficult situations, some of which when hitting from the right back position. She also played an important tactical role for the team, being a key piece in their serve-receive system and producing at a high level.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/1968098181474029637 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Celebrated for having surpassed 1,000 assists in her high school career before the start of the match, the senior setter added another 34 to her resume with an excellent performance. Foster had an incredibly clean night offensively, registering only eight errors in 106 swings, and much of the credit goes to Knipling, who not only made excellent choices with her distribution but also did a great job of remaining accurate. She also used her length very well to make an impact at the net with three kills and two blocks and produced nine digs and two aces on the backcourt to cap off a tremendous all-around performance.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/1968092555951870188 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">The senior middle had a great display of efficiency for the Falcons, getting the job done at the net with great consistency. Kareem did well offensively, alternating between hard-driven swings and well-placed tips to produce five kills. She also did well defensively, accounting for half of the team's four blocks. Kareem was always alert at the net and did well when she had to react quickly to unforeseen situations.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">St. John's inconsistency in serve-receive got the senior outside hitter out of her comfort zone, as she had to swing high sets at the pin for most of the match, facing two Foster blockers every time she went up. Rio showed good resources and superior intelligence to find ways to put the ball down, picking excellent shots and tooling the block when possible, besides not making many errors. The outside hitter held her own in serve-receive and also appeared well on the backcourt with some digs.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/09/2J4A0025_3aea25.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-886882" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Johnson wasn't used offensively as much as St. John's probably would have wanted because of their inconsistent passing, but when she was set, the senior middle managed to put the ball down at a good rate. She got off the floor very well and showed great vision to hit around the block to score.
