Rio and her HJV 18 Elite team will play in the 18s division on Saturday. One of the most well-rounded players in the area, she’s incredibly consistent with her game and anchors her team’s game with solid production on both sides of the ball. Extremely efficient when hitting a quick set at the pin, Rio is very well-versed offensively, finding nice angles for her swings and intelligently using tips and tooling the block when under pressure. She’s also a stud on the back row, stepping up to lead the team in serve-receive and showing great positioning and excellent reactions to come up with great digs.

St. John’s inconsistency in serve-receive got the senior outside hitter out of her comfort zone, as she had to swing high sets at the pin for most of the match, facing two Foster blockers every time she went up. Rio showed good resources and superior intelligence to find ways to put the ball down, picking excellent shots and tooling the block when possible, besides not making many errors. The outside hitter held her own in serve-receive and also appeared well on the backcourt with some digs.

Rio will be on the court in Dallas with HJV 17 Elite in the 17 Open division. She’s an outside hitter who provides great stability for her teams with her superior technical skills and her impressive consistency. Her outstanding ball control is pivotal for her team’s success as it helps them stay in system, opening up all sorts of possibilities offensively. Rio is also extremely well-versed offensively and can carry a big load in the team’s point-scoring efforts. She’s very explosive with her approach and does an excellent job with her shot selection, keeping her errors very low and finding great solutions to difficult plays.

St. John’s had a lot of players performing at a very high level over the weekend but Rio was, in several ways, the glue that kept the team together on the court. The Mavericks used a tall and powerful lineup for most of the time and things wouldn’t have worked so well for them if not for Rio’s formidable work. A two-way player, she helped libero Chloe Davis keep serve-receive stable while also producing big digs that gave the team another chance to put the ball down. Rio was also very efficient at the net, using her vision to hit around blockers, put the ball down very consistently and make very few errors.

A sophomore, Rio is expected to play a big role for St. John’s this season, using her well-rounded game to contribute to the team on both sides of the ball. She’s a very technical player and that reflects in the efficiency she displays on the backcourt, be it passing or playing defense. Although not the tallest player, Rio also does well at the net, being a viable scoring option for the Mavericks. She gets off the floor well, has a very quick right arm and is extremely intelligent with her shot selection.

Rio was probably the most efficient and consistent player among St. John’s hitters. Very technical and intelligent, she did a good job offensively, often getting out-of-system sets and finding creative solutions to make the most of them – or, at the very least, keeping errors to a minimum. She also made some good plays on teh backcourt, keeping her passing consistent for the most part and making some important digs at the middle back position.
