2A Under The Radar Athletes At Semi-State

With that level of volleyball acuity, there are the stars, and then there are the x-factors—-the kids you can't do without, or the kids that are the reason you've made it this far. Insert Ella into this roster, and you've got the answer. Her ability to make some blocks look irrelevant is innate, and her high volleyball IQ makes her a better “big” than the lumbering over-six-footers that you usually see from small schools. What I <em>can't</em> list in the column to the left is how many parts of this game she's a part of for Lakeland. Setting from the back row and attacking from the front, Abriana's quickness gets her to every ball, whether it's on defense, offense, setting—-whatever's needed, she can do it. I'm looking for Laney to be the catalyst for a balanced offense from the Starfires. Yes, they run a 6-2, but at this time of year, senior leadership means a lot. She's listed as a setter AND a right side, but her primary focus this season has been setting. In all, she's probably had her hand—-literally—-in nearly every point played for Greencastle for the last three years. The unfortunate thing about middles is that they don't get the ball <em>nearly</em> as many times as they are available to hit, and can only affect a match directly on defense. Well, Emma's the perfect person for the assignment, and does it well. With TC's first-ever regional title in volleyball, Miss Williams is the glue that keeps this squad together. In the perfect year for her to have her BEST year, Gwyn is the secondary outlet for the Tigers, but does so much more. You watch her play, and she's a good player. Then you look at the stat sheet and realize just how much she's actually had a hand in doing, and you realize what the definition of “under the radar” truly means.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
