The Class of 2027 is about six months removed from being able to have direct contact with college volleyball programs. Those discussions led to a number of members in the recruiting cycle finding homes on the next level.

You can see where some of those student-athletes are headed by viewing their profiles, which can be found from the recently updated rankings for the group. You'll also noticed that a lot of really good players being available for college teams.

I recently wrote about Galloway for Prep Girls Hoops after watching her shine in that sport, where she could help Division I teams as a defensive stopper with offensive upside. She still probably has more upside in volleyball, but it's close. The daughter of former Iowa hooper Kyle Galloway, Hattie is a dangerous two-way performer in the middle of the net in volleyball. Explosion off of the court, leaping ability and emerging power in her swing give her a chance to reach her considerably ceiling in that sport. It's a matter of repetitions. When she focuses on one sport in college, she'll maximize her potential. Watching her as a student-athlete at the school where our kids attend, there's no doubt in my mind she'll put in the work necessary to be her best.

Schweer has made significant progress with her consistency during the last year, a crucial piece to becoming a successful performer in the back row, where mistakes are magnified. Scouting her in person at the late-season Westide Invite in Cedar Rapids and again at the state tournament, Schweer was a key reason the Mustangs made it back to Coralville following major graduation losses from the 2024 state championship team. Keeping a rebuilding team regularly in system helps it gain confidence. Schweer succeeds with lateral quickness and quick reactions. She stands in well on serve-receive and is well-positioned against the attack. Schweer is small but tough, a kid willing to work for her dreams.

Risk plays with high-level teammates in high school and on the club circuit, which can lead to her being overshadowed. Now's her chance to jump out of those shadows by showing off her considerable ability for PowerPlex this coming winter and spring. She took advantage of more opportunity with Ankeny during its run to the 5A state semifinals this fall. She contributed 142 kills (.257) and 55.0 blocks in 101 sets. One of Risk's best traits is versatility. She can succeed in the middle or at either pin thanks to being a good athlete with long arms and explosion off of the court. With smaller college rosters these days, it's beneficial to have effective multi-positional players. Risk is that.

Few players around the state improved more than Heither did in the last year. By the time we reached the state tournament, the junior was showing she could impact matches as a two-way standout in the middle of the net. She finished with 154 kills (.311) and 79.0 blocks in 82 sets for the 5A state runner-up Jaguars. Heither made the move from Impact to PowerPlex this club season with an eye on showing college coaches she can be a valued member of their roster no matter who she's lining up for. She's a powerful athlete with room to grow before reaching her potential.

Miller took a step forward in all of the areas college coaches like to see in prospects. She made herself more attractive to those staffs by improving her all-around volleyball skills and increasing her physical strength. Miller best fits at setter on the next level. Her well-rounded ability there allows her to put her teammates in position to succeed and to be able to make plays herself. With improved explosiveness, Miller mounts an attack with her lefty swing and also defends at the net. She's quick, moves well laterally and flashes sharp reflexes, which leads to production in the back row, too. She works hard at the game and has a chance for plenty of growth before reaching her ceiling.

Leifker is a player that finds a way to positively impact her team, whether that be in high school or club competition. Part of why she can do that is her versatility and athleticism. No matter where she's needed along the front row, Leifker delivers. A notable vertical leap aids her in attacking from any position, including when she's behind the line. Jumping ability and timing allow her to defend well in the front row. Leifker has been a key contributor on strong teams for years, this season playing a key role in Dallas Center-Grimes reaching the state tournament for the first time since 2020. She produced 254 kills (.355) and 62.0 blocks in 100 sets this fall.
