Future in Focus: 14s Who Delivered at the Big City Luau

There is great talent at each age level. I love checking them all out. Every tournament has a handful of players who make you stop and take note, and this weekend at the Big City Luau was no different. Whether it was their advanced skill set, raw athleticism, communication and leadership, or simply the ability to ball out when it mattered, these young up and comers stood out in a big way. While they are just hitting our radar, they all made a strong impression. Below are a few players worth taking note of as their journeys begin. Bethel is a new middle who is simply fun to watch and brings great energy to the court. She works hard in every facet of her game. She reads the net well, reacts quickly, and transitions efficiently to put herself in the right position. She executed several impressive slides and ran some quicks in the middle that consistently caught opponents off guard. Using her strong vertical and quick arm swing, she is already capable of delivering some impressive, terminal plays for her age.     Willis was one of the biggest standout setters of the weekend given her potential and the fact that she is just 14 years old. Despite her youth, she already showcases excellent setting hands, delivers a clean ball in rhythm, and does a great job moving the offense around the court. Her ability to keep all her hitters involved (including executing slides) while maintaining a consistent tempo stood out, making her a setter with significant potential to watch moving forward.     I have seen Stortz a few times as she is right in my own backyard. One of the things that I appreciate about her is that she is a fearless attacker who is not afraid to take big swings on every given opportunity. Clearly the go-to attacker on her team, she competes with confidence and does back down or play is safe. A true workhorse on the court, she is a player to watch as she continues to develop over the coming years.     Hoffmann is a versatile six rotation middle who has the potential to be effective at any front row attacking position. For her age, she shows an impressive high point of contact and a quick arm swing, and contributes on the defensive end as well. She also is an asset from the serving line, delivering a highly effective float that consistently put opponents out of system.     Lueth is a young setter who playing beyond her youth and doing a solid job running a 5–1 offense. She communicates well with her teammates and consistently brings positive energy, especially in tough situations which showcases her leadership abilities. As a setter, she was highly effective on the weekend. She worked hard to track down any ball and delivered clean sets with consistent placement. She sets a hittable ball that sets up her attackers for success.
