It's cold in Washington, but these middles have been burning up the court as the season has started. These six all recently competed in the Matt Hartner Memorial or the MLK Seattle Kickoff, contributing to their team's excellent finishes.

Burris works hard to close the block and racks up touches on the block. The Sumner middle shows the ability to dig up balls defensively, has a tough deep serve, and enough touch with her platform to deliver a solid out-of-system set. Burris has the length and frame to develop into a powerful two-way player- PJVBC 16 National looks poised for an excellent season after finishing 2nd in the 16 Open at the MLK Seattle Kickoff.

Dakine likes to get Goranson involved offensively in the middle. She has a heavy arm and an outstanding ability to work around the block with her swing. The Gig Harbor standout works well with her setters, running behind or in front and varying her attack angles to keep the opposing middle from locking in to any particular pattern. Goranson covers ground quickly with her block move and gets her hands pressed across the net to shut down attackers.

Dewland has urgency on the court- she runs hard to get into transition and make herself available to attack or hold the middle. She helped PSVBA 16 Legacy finish in 5th place at the Matt Hartner Memorial, an outstanding effort in a combined 16/15 field of 128 teams. In a match against WVBA, Dewland hammered down a kill for a sideout, made a tough play to keep a challenging set in play, and finished the rotation with a stuff block when she fronted the opposing middle on a great read.

Humbert was a critical part of CPA 16 Drew's championship run at the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic. The sophomore from Gonzaga Prep has a solid all-around skill set- she is smooth when she uses her hands to set the second ball, and she plays hustling defense after she serves. The 6'2" Humbert has put in the work to improve all of her game; she is a patient, smart blocker, and can turn her swing around the block to find a spot to score.

Singh has excellent length and is an instinctive blocker who can deliver a stuff block, then, on the next ball, hammer down a kill in the seam or the slide. The Pullman sophomore is locked in and focused; she reads the game well and makes decisive block moves to close. Mode 15 National jump-started its season with a 15 Open Championship at the MLK Seattle Kickoff; Singh and her team will be fun to watch as the year progresses.

Wiest and her Aspire NW team finished with a 5-3 record at the MLK Kickoff in Seattle. The Camas attacker is quick off the floor and versatile enough to swing from the middle or either pin. Aspire utilized her attacking from the outside when they wanted to give Wiest an extra swing in a favorable matchup. The sophomore is athletic and comfortable from the service line and backrow defense.
