Gilvin (pictured) played a big role in helping the 55 Elite team to a 3-0 pool play day Saturday on her 16th Birthday. She puts a lot of sets on cue, both long and short. Gilvin does the back set without leaning making it tougher for opposing blockers to figure out where balls are going. Described by teammates and close ones as determined, kind and funny, Gilvin also makes quality first touches. Gilvin said keys to successful setting are reading defenses and figuring out things like which hitters are hot.

Howard has turned into a solid hitter for the 15-1 squad. Howard pounds ones to different parts of the court and does a great job cutting balls to the sides of blockers. She is also effective running slides and other plays. Coaches say it is a hard balance for hitters when it comes to power and placement. However, Howard manages to put down a lot of balls. Howard said it depends on the set as to whether she focuses more on placement as opposed to smoking balls. Howard said if the set is near the net she can focus more on placement but has to focus more on power to get balls in the court if not.

Newcomb puts a lot of sets on target. She does the back set. Newcomb has developed a powerful lefthanded spinning serve that throws off opponents. She needs to work on not leaning as much on the back sets so as not to tip off opposing blockers where balls are going. However, Newcomb does a good job listening to teammates. Newcomb said she tries to get in a good setting position and figure out where hitters want balls so they can put balls down.

Auxier deposited a lot of ones to different parts of the court. Auxier added in soft touches when needed. Auxier also formed solid double blocks with her teammates forcing balls high and wide. Opponents can go soft on Auxier or she'll swat them down. She needs work on her accuracy and rhythm, but that will come with time. Auxier played outside at Montgomery County until injuries forced the Indians to move her to the middle, where she plays for 16-1. Auxier said she feels she's adjusted well to the middle blocker role.

Begley does a good job with first touches and produces solid serves. Begley also communicates well in the back row and makes quality out of system passes. She made a sliding one arm save during the one game. Begley does need some work on her ball control and range, which will come with her work ethic.
