ST. LOUIS - Iowa clubs represented themselves well during this past weekend's Nike President's Day Classic at the Americas Center. Most, if not all, age groups saw teams from the state competing in Gold Bracket play.

That success occurs when talented individuals stand out on well-connected squads. Those athletes can't do it alone, but their teams need them to deliver big plays in important moments.

Let's look back at those performances, position by position. Here's a noteworthy collection of setters:

My first exposure to Ramsay took place at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis. The Ankeny Christian freshman was operating in a 6-2 system for Impact 15-1 Elite, which finished 5th out of 32 teams in the Premier Red Division. Ramsay showed she can deliver the ball precisely to all parts of the net. She's athletic and quick, allowing her to move around the court and into position to make a play. Height and long arms allow for an effective block or putting the ball down when the opportunity arises. Ramsay holds up well in serve-receive, too. She certainly appears on track to help the Eagles varsity as early as next season.

I've scouted Caffery consistently throughout the last few club campaigns. My latest in-person look came at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis. The Wilton junior helped Select 17 Mizuno finish fifth out of 32 teams in the open division. Caffery is rock solid, standing out for her consistency and limiting mistakes. She's technically sound with a great feel for the setter position. No matter the team, Caffery displays a keen understanding on where to put the ball for her attackers to take advantage. Her block is effective thanks to sharp timing and quick reactions, which also help her in serve-receive. Caffery boasts the talent to help a smart program at the next level that provides her with an opportunity.

It's been enjoyable watching Eastvold develop he game during the last few seasons. She played well last club campaign before guiding Iowa City West to its first state tournament berth since 2016 this past fall. My first chance to scout her this year came at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic, where Adrenaline 17 Marty was competing in the open division. Eastvold stood out as one of the most impactful players on that squad. She loacted the ball where her attackers could maximize their skills and took advantage with her own attack when spotting an opening. Eastvold is a taller setter that plays even bigger thanks to long arms. They help her defend effectively at the net and take swings from the opposite pin. She's improved in serve-receive, too.

DePoorter was playing up when I scouted her at the 2026 Nike President's Classic in St. Louis. You would not have known that watching the performance with Select 16 Mizuno. It's a mature, consistent game. The exciting part is that there's plenty of room to grow with more reps. Natural gifts give her future upside to go with current production. DePoorter is tall with long arms. Athleticism and agility add to the equation. She fluidly flows well around the court with quickness and a good feel for the game. DePoorter defends well at the net and flashes plenty of potential with her swing.

I'm a Hoffert fan. It was stoked after watching her play for Mount Vernon at the Westside Invite late in the prep season. I was reminded of it when watching her compete at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis. Hoffert is what we call a "gamer." She plays all out all the time with a willingness to provide the team with whatever it needs for success. Hoffert has a keen sense of where to go with the set on a given play, putting the ball where her attacker can make it work. A good athlete, Hoffert mounts an effective attack by leaping well and offering a heavy left-handed swing. She's a smart player that spots opponent tendencies and takes advantage of that information.

Morrow was on point when I watched her operating in a 6-2 system for the Dowling Catholic varsity at the Westside Invite late in the last prep season. With the other half of the two-setter setup graduating this spring, Morrow could end up shining in a 5-1 for the Maroons this coming campaign. The sophomore flashed the ability to make that beneficial for the team when I watched her compete with United 16-1 Elite Timmerman at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis. Morrow pops the set off her fingers tips, delivering it with precision for her attackers to end the point. She sees the court well, allowing her to mix up her sets and find advantages against the defense. Morrow can end points with her developing swing, throws up an effective block and is making strides in serve-receive.
