Five Day Two Bluegrass Tournament Morning Notables

The second day saw huge crowds all throughout the day as the competition for bigger wins and spots in gold rounds picked up. These five accomplished big things on that second day.    It has been said that things are tough without quality first touches. Broyles is smooth when it comes to that. One can tell she has taken a number of those for a while now. Broyles is not afraid to go on her knees to make plays if needed, yet she remains under control. Broyles trails plays well and does a great job communicating with teammates on the court.     Mineer gives the 17 Red team a powerful attack and a great bit of versatility. Mineer produces from all six spots on the court. Mineer makes great first touches, giving a good effort going for balls and takes solid rips from the front and back rows. Mineer angles balls away from and off blockers for big points. Mineer having a good back row attack, steady mindset and aggressive mentality are huge keys to turning into a sound all-around player.     [program_tooltip program_id='432110' first='Clarksville' last='Volleyball Club'] 17 Jenny head coach Jenny Richardson described Olita as a good utility player she can put at any position for a good reason. She's a sound all-around player. Olita takes timely swings and makes nice first touches. She stops in her tracks nicely to make those crisp touches and jumpstart the offense. Olita makes sound crosses and quality roll shots. She will use her off (left) hand to fool opponents. Olita said she told herself to be open to playing where coaches need her at a younger age and it is paying off.     Reed's size helps her make sets at various angles others are not. Reed does a great job running the offense. She makes great reads with her high volleyball IQ. She can do a variety of short and long sets and mixes in a deceptive setover. On defense, Reed makes good passes. She can handle well-struck balls.     MAVA 17 Select opponents have to respect the tandem of setter [player_tooltip player_id='535188' first='Brooke' last='Barntsen'] and outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='535286' first='Layla' last='Green'] so much that it opens things up for other hitters like Sharpe. She takes advantage of her opportunities, taking back sets and pounding them to the back row with a smooth approach and finish. Sharpe has improved her arm swing. Sharpe said Barntsen and Green do a great job displacing blocks so she can drop balls into holes. She credited those two for making her and the other hitters' jobs easier.
