Setters We Love In The Class Of 2029

We're finishing up the positional breakdowns for the class of 2029, and none of these teams have any success whatsoever without the quarterbacks of each team's offense. Here are five setters from around the state that are currently running the show for either their high school or club programs—-or both—-at an extremely high level.    Smooth athleticism, a high volleyball IQ and an innate ability to keep every pass that comes to her in-system, Evelyn is currently our #1 recruit in the class of ‘29. Her work with the NTDP this past summer put her squarely on the map with the best of the best nationally, and her skill set is improving with every watch. More of a setter than an attacker at this point in her career, Miss Shirk is getting the lion's share of high end play through the Windy City Power League this spring—-easily the biggest power league in the Midwest.     Quickness, athletic acuity and enviable setting accuracy, Honor's skill set has her 15 Purple squad at Circle already part of the nationally-open-level conversation. Her size is above average for setters in this class in Indiana, and couples that size with athleticism that allows her to get to a ton of balls other Indiana-based setters can't (or won't) get to. I would not be surprised if, when the summer ends, we're talking about a GJNC all-tournament setter in [player_tooltip player_id='850509' first='Honor' last='Durham'].     Part of two programs (Providence and Union) that emphasize ball control and a high volleyball IQ, Rylie is an athletic, quick-footed setter that gets to every ball without complaint regardless of where it is passed. She's been to a couple of our showcases at PrepDig, and has shown herself to be a plug-and-play 5-1 setter in any situation with any combination of hitters she's given.     Making up for her size with strong hands and long strides, Lillian knows nothing but winning in both her high school and club programs. Already familiar with high-end training and playing one of the toughest schedules in the class, Miss Hughes' familiarity with “tough” is what makes her stand out—-in short, she makes it look easy and matter-of-fact. I like her go for every ball, at 100%, and put up a hittable ball regardless of situation.     The smallest of the setters in today's article, Landree's ability to run a 5-1 in one of the best high school programs in the state is what sets her apart. Quick like a DS and smarter than most, Miss Johnson is an easy plug-and-play 6-2 setter for a larger school and a 5-1 setter for a smaller program at the next level. That quickness of hers shows out in out-of-system play; getting to the ball and putting up something better than hittable is her calling card, and most of the time, the set stays in-tempo like an in-system set would be.
