Setters We’re Watching In The Class Of ‘28

We can talk about all of the attacking positions all we want in this updated 2028 rankings list, but none of those hitters would be mentioned without the setters in this class. Below are five setters from five different clubs from around the state that have made major waves in the club ranks this spring, and should be some of the first off of the recruiting board when this summer comes around.    Long, lean and already running a faster-than-average offense, Maggie looks every bit the part of a D1 setter. She's been part of a 6-2 in high school, but excels in a 5-1 system in club. Able to go get the tight and over-passed passes and turn them into hittable balls, Maggie's hands do a great job of making every hitter on her squad better. To be a complete setting recruit, the last part of her game, her defense, needs addressed. However, I can take the continued development of her blocking and floor defense with the outstanding ability she has to run an offense, with size and smarts for days.     From a family of volleyballers, Nicole is the single-most well-rounded setter recruit in the state. Able to play multiple positions at the highest of levels, her volleyball IQ is off the chart and her athleticism rises to meet it regularly. With high hands and footwork other setters covet, Nicole's ability to make every pass hittable is her main trait. Those hands are also very deceptive, and can make life miserable for blockers trying to read-block against her.     Quick-footed, faster than lightning and beyond athletic, Paislee is a regular at our showcases, and has shown out each and every time she's arrived. Currently the top setter at Munciana in this class, She guides the Nighthawks (16-1) to a smart and fast offense, rarely making either decision errors or setting errors. Fast, reliable and accurate, Paislee's combination of ball control, volleyball IQ and athleticism are the definition of “Indiana-based volleyball player”.     Also from a family familiar with high-level volleyball, Caitlyn has spent many a PD Showcase presenting her well-rounded skill set to all in attendance. More aggressive on two contacts that most setters in this (or any) class, Miss Gutt can already run a 5-1 with a fast pin attack that's hard to detect when her squad is in system. Her hands are also quite deceptive and, paired with her ability to go over on two, make her one of the toughest setters to read in this class.     Of the five setters here, Charlee is probably the most decorated in the club ranks. She guided her 15-1 squad last year to a bronze medal at GJNCs, have already earned their open bid to nationals at Boston a couple of weeks ago, and have yet to drop a match this season. With quick hands, even quicker feet and an ability to calmly defend her position in any situation, Charlee is a naturally talented setter, with athleticism and smarts for days. No, she's not the tallest in this class. But she does her job at an elite level, with an elite squad playing one of the toughest schedules in the country.
